
'Dons Fall Victim to Second-Half Run in Loss

Charleston, IL – The IPFW Mastodons fell victim to a trio of second-half runs, as the host Eastern Illinois Panthers out-scored the ‘Dons 38-8 to start the second half, in a 90-63 EIU non-conference victory, despite a career-high 19 points from sophomore Chelsey Jackson.
Jackson was 7-of-16 from the field, including a pair of three-point baskets, while Maggie O’Connell scored 10 off of the bench, hitting 2-of-3 from long range, and all four of her charity stripe attempts. Courtney Reed and Tina Moen each scored nine, Reed’s on a trio of three-point shots, and Moen on 3-of-9 shooting from the field, and 3-of-4 from the free throw line.
The ‘Dons came out of the gates firing on all cylinders, with Eva Ivanova starting with a jumper in the lane followed by three straight long range jumpers, the first by Ivanova, the second from Chelsey Jackson and the final one from Courtney Reed to start the game, jumping out to an 11-2 lead.
IPFW kept their lead, and led by six at 27-21 with 6:27 to play in the first half before the well went dry, with the hosts out-scoring the ‘Dons 21-5 to send the teams into the locker room with a 42-32 EIU lead.
A 15-0 run to start the second half turned the 10-point margin into a 25-point one, as the hosts followed with runs of 10-0 and 13-0, as IPFW was out-scored 38-8 to open the second half, putting the ‘Dons behind by 42 at 80-38.
A 25-10 run to close the game put the margin within 30 points at 90-63.
For the second consecutive game the ‘Dons surrendered an over 50 percent shooting night from their opponent, this time with the Panters hitting a blistering 61.7 percent (29-of-47) of their shots, including going 8-of-18 from long range. IPFW was held to 35 percent (21-of-60) shooting for the game, and 35.5 percent (11-of-31) from three-point range. IPFW was out-scored 24-10 from the free throw line, as EIU hit 24-of-28 (85.7) charity stripe attempts, with the ‘Dons converting 10-of-13 chances (76.9 percent).
EIU had five players finish with double figure points, led by Rachel Galligan who had 17 points on 5-of-8 shooting from the field.
