
Women Golfers Take Sixth at Butler

AVON, Ind. - The IPFW Mastodon women's golf team was unable to hold on to their fourth-place first-round score, shooting a 356 on the second day of the tournament and finishing in?sixth place at the 2008 Butler Spring Invitational, hosted at the Prestwick Country Club in Avon, Indiana.
After shooting a blistering 337 in the opening round, the team rounded out the tournament with a 356, giving the squad their two-day total of 693. Ball State took top honors over the two days with a 639, while Evansville and host Butler rounded out the top three with a 653 and 663, respectively. Cleveland State (677) and Oakland (688) finished ahead of the `Dons, with IUPUI (704) and Marian (708) rounding out the top eight.
Jillian Speece paced the `Dons with a tournament total of 170 (83-87), placing in a tie for 16th overall, while Alison Rathsman (89-85-174) and Abbey Waltke (81-93-174) tied for 24th. Jacque Speece rounded out the scoring four for IPFW with a 175 (84-91) with Nicolle Geyer carding a 187 (91-96) for the varsity's fifth golfer. Individually, Nikki LeRose took 19th place overall by shooting a two-day total of 172 (87-85).
The team heads back to the competitive course on Monday and Tuesday, March 31 and April 1, when the team takes part in the UC Women's Spring Invitational, hosted at the Hueston Woods-White Course in Oxford, Ohio.
