Bowling Green, OH – IPFW track athletes Crystina Martinez and Katy Moore put their names in the record books for the third time this season over the weekend at the Tom Wright Classic hosted by Bowling Green University.
Crystina Martinez has put a stranglehold on the distance records as a Mastodon, setting school records in the 5,000-meter, 3,000-meter, and mile runs in successive weekends, with the most recent, the mile run, coming this afternoon. Martinez’ time of 4:59.53 was over ten seconds faster than the previous time of 5:09.64 held by Ashley Ritchey.
Katy Moore has set the school record in the high jump three times this season, including twice in the last two weeks, with her most recent leap of 5-feet, 3-inches topping her previous best by an inch, placing third in the competition.
Martinez’ mile was the top time in the meet, with twin sister Crystal out-leaning Autumn Dettmann of Bowling Green for second place overall in a time of 5:09.27, which also would have broke the school record. Felicia Mondry (6th/5:24.24), Kim Matusik (8th/5:28.31), and Annina Gruber (13th/5:40.95) rounded out the Mastodon contingent in the mile.
Ali Paul broke the tape with a first-place finish in the 3,000, finishing the 15-lap event in a time of 10:38.46, with Mastusik placing fourth in a time of 10:55.39, Gruber 6th in a time of 12:15.21, and Rachel Schultz 7th in 12:42.34.
The distance medley relay team of Beth Hoekstra, Whitney Lane, Katy Moore, and Mondry took first with a time of 12:41.64.
Whitney Lane took second in the triple jump with a leap of 33-1 (10.08 meters), just shy of the school record she set last season, while placing seventh in the long jump with a leap of 14-9.25 (4.50 meters).
Crystina Martinez, in addition to her mile, took fourth in the 800 with a time of 2:22.52, just two seconds off of the school record, while the 5k pair of Kayla Sweet and Jessica McNulty took third and fifth with times of 19:28.70 and 19:53.85, respectively.
Sarah Branam took sixth in the 20-pound weight throw with a toss of 45-1 (13.75 meters), while teammate Laura Williams placed ninth in the shot put with a distance of 32-4 (9.86 meters). Jill Edmonds placed ninth in the 200-dash, sprinting the one-lap race in a time of 28.45.
The ‘Dons now take a week rest before traveling east to compete in the Akron University Open on Valentines Day, February 14.
