Fort Wayne, IN - The IPFW domination over Centenary continued, as the Mastodons, who in the previous seven all-time meetings between the teams has not lost a set to the Ladies, once again swept the visitors and won tonight at the Hilliard Gates Sports Center 25-16, 25-20, 26-24.
Schlindwein had 17 kills, as Taryn Parker and Stephanie Lamberti each added a half-dozen. Rebekah Roehm led the team with 11 digs for the match, as team leader Jamie Schwartz saw her career-long streak of 15 straight matches with double figure digs snapped, as the senior's streak ends at 15 straight matches, the fourth longest in IPFW's rally-scoring era.
Alli Hook had a team-leading five blocks, with freshman Jessie Manwaring added four, and Parker three. Roehm had a pair of service aces, as Shannon Reuter and Megan Steenhuysen had 16 and 12 assists, apiece.
Centenary opened the match strong, jumping ahead to a 3-1 lead before IPFW fought back, and used a pair of 5-0 runs to turn the two-point deficit into a five-point, 13-8 lead. With their nearly dozen-point lead, IPFW cruised the rest of the way for the 25-16 opening set win.
In the second frame, the Ladies looked like they were going to pull away, jumping ahead by as many as four at 12-8 and seven at 16-9 before the Mastodons climbed back following a 7-0 run that tied the match, and ended the set with an 8-2 run, to pull away in the 25-20 second-set win.
In the third and eventually final set, each team took a run early, Centenary using a 3-0 streak to lead 4-3, before the Mastodons responded with four straight to lead 7-4. IPFW kept their lead, and increased it to as many as five at 16-11 before the Ladies chipped away at the IPFW advantage, and used a 4-0 run to knot the set at 18 apiece.
Following a Parker kill, Centenary ran off three more points, leading by two at 21-19. The Mastodons weren't going to be out-done, and used a 4-0 run to turn the two-point deficit into a two-point lead. IPFW's run was followed by another from Centenary, as the visitors used a 3-0 streak to lead 24-23. Serving for set point, Centenary's Blair Claypool served the ball out of bounds, setting the stage for two straight IPFW points on a Lady attack error and Schlindwein's final kill of the match, giving IPFW the 26-24 third-set win.
Indianapolis, Indiana native Brianna Kern led the team with 13 kills, as Christina Fellows and Claypoole had five each. Fellows and Kern each had 10 digs, as Claypoole also had four blocks in the losing effort.
