Richmond, KY - The IPFW baseball team pounded out 24 hits in their first two games of the Logan's Roadhouse Leadoff Tournament in Kentucky, but today the Mastodons were limited to just two hits in a 4-1 loss to Buffalo.
Both starting pitcher were dealing in this one. IPFW's A.J. Risedorph tossed five complete, giving up just two hits, but the Bulls got to him in the 4th inning. Buffalo junior left fielder Charlie Karstedt slapped an RBI single through the left side of the IPFW infield scoring sophomore designated hitter Kevin McCall.
IPFW manufactured a run in the 5th inning to tie it. Senior catcher Devin Taylor reached on an infield error. He was sacrificed to second on a bunt by senior left fielder Quentin Brown. Another infield error allowed Taylor to move to third, and he eventually scored on a ground out by right fielder Ryan Beer.
Buffalo (4-3) would get the game winner in the 6th inning. McCall doubled off of reliever Scott Micinski to start the inning. He would come home on an RBI double by right fielder Chris Ciesla.
The Bulls got a pair of insurance runs in the eighth to send the 'Dons to their second loss of the season (1-2).
Buffalo starter Pierre Miville-Deschenes got the win (2-0) tossing seven innings of one-hit ball. He struck out 11 while walking just three. Reliever Zach Anderson came on to pitch the final two innings for his first save of the season. He struck out three 'Dons.
Risedorph didn't figure in the decision. He fanned three and walked just one.
Micinski was tagged with the loss (0-1). He tossed just a third of an inning, giving up those two hits and one run.
Brown and center fielder Garrett Segraves had the lone base hits for IPFW.
