2009 Alabama Relays Complete Results
Tuscaloosa, AL - The IPFW Mastodons had many strong performances at the Alabama Relays, hosted by the University of Alabama, including five performances inside of the top 10 in their fields.
Leading the way for the `Dons was freshman Felicia Mondry, who took second in the 3,000-meter steeple chase in a time of 11:11.87, nearly 21 seconds ahead of the 11:32.47 that she ran last week. Also competing in the steeple chase was Sarah Hutchings, who ran a time of 11:38.79, placing sixth, with Annina Gruber running a time of 14:05.40, placing 18th.
Kim Matusik and Kayla Sweet placed fifth and sixth, respectively, in the 10,000-meter run, crossing the tape in the 6.2-mile race in times of 41:32.47, and 42:23.33, respectively.
Alexandra Paul's time of 18:19.38 in the 5,000-meter run took sixth overall, with Jessica McNulty breaking the 20-minute barrier with a time of 19:58.56.
Junior Beth Hoekstra finished inside of the top 30 in two events, the 800- and the 1,500-meter runs. In the 800, she took 19th with a time of 2:26.37, as Jill Edmonds (2:42.57/31st) and Nicole Parry (3:00.10/37th) also competed in the near-half-mile.
Hoekstra then turned around to race to a time of 5:12.45 in the 1,500-meter run, with Rachel Schultz taking 33rd in a time of 5:23.99, and Gruber a time of 5:39.63 for 37th place.
Katy Moore took 12th in the high jump, clearing a height of 1.55 meters (5-feet, 1-inch), to tie for 12th overall, as Jessica Miller took 19th in the discus with a toss of 33.66 meters (110-5).
On the second day of the event, a trio of Mastodon athletes, Lane, Jill Edmonds, and Laura Williams, competed in individual events. Lane took 12th in the triple jump with a leap of 10.20 meters (33-5.75), while Edmonds placed 14th in the same event with a leap of 9.65 meters, 31-feet, 8-inches. Williams placed 23rd in the shot put in her individual event, with a toss of 10.14 (33-3.25).
The Mastodons took part in four relays in the final day of the relay meet, with the 4x1,500-meter relay team placing third overall, as the team of Mondry, Hutchings, Paul, and Crystal Martinez crossed the finish line in a time of 20:03.23.
The 4x800-meter relay team of Hutchings, Hoekstra, Paul, and Moore placed fifth in a time of 9:48.38, before the Distance Medley Relay Team of McNulty, Lane, Moore, and Mondry took eighth in a time of 12:49.19. The final relay for the Mastodons was the sprint medley relay, where Lane, Edmonds, Gruber, and Schultz placed ninth in a time of 4:47.58.
The 'Dons next take to the track on Saturday, April 4, when they travel to Athens, Ohio, to compete in the Ohio University Green and White Invitational.
