Xenia, OH - Dayton tallied eight times in the middle innings Wednesday night at the Athletes in Action Sports Center in Xenia, Ohio to beat IPFW, 10-1 in a non-conference matchup.
The game had originally been schedule for 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday afternoon at Mastodons Field, but soggy conditions forced IPFW to hit the road. Dayton's field was not playable either so the two teams met in Xenia, Ohio.
IPFW opened the scoring in the top of the first as senior first baseman Chris Gottschall ripped an RBI triple scoring shortstop Jordan Kohler who had reached on an error.
The 'Dons lead was short lived as senior designated hitter Marshall McDonald blasted a one-out two-run homer to left field giving the Flyers a 2-1 lead.
The score remained 2-1 until the bottom of the fifth when Dayton (21-14) pushed three across the plate, two coming from the bat of catcher Scott Dunwoody who doubled to center field.
Leading 5-1, the Flyers put the game away with a five-run sixth. Dunwoody drove in two more and center fielder Jacob Spaeth brought home a pair with a two-run shot to right field.
With the loss, IPFW falls to 7-24 on the season. The Mastodons will return to Summit League action this Friday opening a series with the Oakland Golden Grizzlies at Mastodons Field.
