Fort Wayne, IN - Butler designated hitter Blaine DeCamp went 5-7 and scored four runs to help lead the Bulldogs past IPFW, 18-7 on Wednesday afternoon at Mastodon Field.
The Bulldogs (6-23) broke open a close game with 14 unanswered runs over three innings to coast to the win.
The 'Dons opened the scoring in the bottom of the first on a solo home run by first baseman Chris Gottschall. It was Gottschall's fourth homer of the season.
Butler got that one back in the top of the second and plated three more in the 3rd inning to take a 4-1 lead.
IPFW would score twice in the bottom of the third on RBI singles by Gottschall and designated hitter Shaun VanDriessche to pull to within one at 4-3.
The 'Dons tied it in the fourth on an RBI single by left fielder Quentin Brown, but couldn't manage to keep the Bulldogs off the board from there.
BU plated three in both the 5th and 6th innings and piled on eight runs in the 7th inning to blow it wide open.
Butler right fielder Luke Duncan drove in fourth runs, while first baseman Kyle Schultz and center fielder Colin Ziegel each had three hits. Ziegel drove in three while Schultz plated two.
VanDriessche was 3-5 with two RBI for IPFW (7-19), while Gottschall and Brown each had a pair of hits.
Butler reliever Ryan Kruszka tossed an inning of relief for his second win of the season (2-5). He struck out two and walked none in his scoreless frame.
IPFW reliever Scott Micinski suffered the loss (1-3). He gave up six runs (five earned) on seven hits over 2.0 innings. He walked three and struck out one.
IPFW returns to Summit League play, hosting Southern Utah this weekend at Mastodon Field.
