Brookings, SD - IPFW got a solid pitching performance from A.J. Risedorph in a Game 1, 7-5 win over South Dakota State on Saturday afternoon, but the Jackrabbits unloaded on the Mastodons in Game 2 winning 20-6 for a doubleheader split at Erv Huether Field.
Risedorph tossed 5.2 innings to secure his second win of the season (2-4). He gave up four runs on eight hits and got plenty of run support.
IPFW took a 2-1 lead in the second inning on an RBI double by third baseman Mark Carden and a sacrifice fly by second baseman Jason Doerffler.
The 'Dons put the game away in the 4th inning. Catcher Mason Rovenstine and left fielder Ryan Beer each walked with the bases loaded to plate a pair. Right fielder Joel Washko finished off the inning with a two-run double down the right field line.
Scott Micinski came on to hold the lead for the Mastodons, and Matt Antos tossed the final inning and two thirds for his first save of the year.
SDSU starter Isaac Johnson took the loss, giving up six runs on two hits in 3.1 innings.
Game two was a different story as the Jackrabbits got to IPFW starter, and Summit League pitcher of the week Stacy Herrold early and often.
The Jacks (20-27, 13-9 SL) tallied 13 runs on 14 hits in 3.0 innings to chase Herrold. In fact, SDSU scored in every inning on the way to the 20-6 win.
Layne Somsen went four complete for the win, his second of the season.
With the split, IPFW is now 11-36, 4-19 SL. The Jacks and 'Dons will finish the series on Sunday afternoon.
