Again, Overtime Dooms Mastodons in 2-1 Loss

Fort Wayne, IN - In the seventh overtime game of the Mastodon season, it was IUPUI who came out on top, after goals in the 87th and 101st minutes gave the visiting Jaguars a crucial Summit League victory, 2-1.

The first 80 minutes of play were relatively quiet. Scoreless until the game's 81st minute, the action lied almost primarily in the rough play between the two sides. In all, nine cards would be issued in the chippy match to go along with 46 total fouls.

Max Touloute was the first to strike in what seemed to be a key late tally. He single-handedly carried the ball deep into Jaguar territory, shaking two defenders before firing a laser from the top of the 18 to beat the Jaguar keeper.

The tally is Touloute's seventh, as the junior has now accounted for more than half of the IPFW offense on the season.

A costly red card just moments later against IPFW's Mitch Falkenstern would prove to be the breaking point of the match. Whistled for rough play at the 81:53 mark, the Mastodon defense faced a man-down situation for the final eight minutes of regulation.

With just three minutes remaining in the match, the crafty Jaguars would take advantage of the extra man. Jeff Keyler sent a ball into the top of the box where Mason Cassady was waiting, as he pushed one past the outstretched reach of the IPFW goalie to tie the match at one.

The game would remain knotted at one until a minute into the second overtime period. Keyler again was in on the helper, as he served a ball from midfield to Yogi Snider. Snider tapped the ball to a streaking Perez Agaba who fired the gamewinner at the 100:55 mark of the match.

The loss drops IPFW to 2-11 overall and 0-2 in conference action. IUPUI evens their season tally at 6-6, while pushing their Summit League mark to 3-1.

IPFW returns to action Sunday as they will make the trip north to face the Detroit Titans. Kickoff for the non-conference showdown is scheduled for 3 p.m.
