SCOUTING THE MASTODONS
The Mastodons are led in scoring by senior guard Ben Botts (6-0/170/Muncie, IN) at 14.7 points a game.
Sophomore guard Frank Gaines (6-5/190/Ft. Lauderdale, FL) is averaging 13.2 points a game, and senior guard Zach Plackemeier (6-3/190/St. Charles, MO) rounds out the top-three scorers for the 'Dons at 12.2 points a contest.
WHAT 2 WATCH 4
The 7-2 start is the best for IPFW in its short Division I history (2001-02). This is also the highest the Mastodons have been over .500 (five games). IPFW's current six-game winning streak is its longest as a D-I member. Continuing with streaks...IPFW has made at least five 3-pointers in its last 27 games. While the Crusaders own a 7-2 all-time series lead, IPFW has won the last two.
SCOUTING THE CRUSADERS
Valparaiso is led in scoring by redshirt senior forward Cory Johnson (6-7/235/Duluth, MN) who is averaging 15.0 points a game. Redshirt junior guard Brandon Wood (6-2/185/Kokomo, IN) is second on the squad in scoring at 14.3 points per game, while sophomore guard Ryan Broekhoff (6-6/200/Frankston, Victoria, Australia) rounds out the top-three in scoring for the Crusaders at 12.1 points a contest.
WHAT 2 WATCH 4
After winning four straight, the Crusaders are on a two-game losing streak. This is just the fourth home game for Valpo this season. They begin the campaign with nine of 13 contests on the road. Can the Crusaders contain IPFW's shooting from behind the arc, and will the Mastodons be able to stop Valpo from scoring inside? Those two factors will likely decide the winner of this game.
