Cape Girardeau, MO - Three Southeast Missouri pitchers combined for a two-hitter as the Redhawks downed the Mastodons, 5-0 in their series opener on Friday afternoon at Capaha Field.
SEMO (2-2) got single runs in the first, second and third and two in the fourth off of IPFW starter Sam Walker. Redhawk second baseman Tyler Heon provided the offensive punch for SEMO with a pair of RBI.
After Walker was chased in the third, junior reliever Nick Opitz came on and pitched four innings of one-hit shutout ball to keep the game close. However, the 'Dons couldn't solve the Redhawk staff.
SEMO starter Logan Mahon struck out five and gave up the two Mastodon hits to first baseman A.J. Christensen and centerfielder Kurt Dudley over the first five innings for his first win of the season.
Walker took the loss, giving up all five runs on six hits in 3.0 innings of work. He struck out three and walked three.
IPFW (0-4) will look for its first win of the campaign when the two teams continue their series a Capaha Field on Saturday afternoon.
