
Mastodons Finish Eighth at Summit Indoor Championships

Fargo, ND - At the 2010 Summit League Indoor Track & Field Championships, the IPFW Mastodons placed eighth at the event hosted by North Dakota State University.
Host North Dakota State won the team championship with 198.5 points, with Oral Roberts finishing second with 131 points, just ahead of Southern Utah's 128. South Dakota State (107) finished just behind the top three, with Western Illinois (52), Oakland (30.5), UMKC (11), and IPFW (4), rounding out the teams in the field.
The 4x400-meter relay team of Katy Moore, Samantha Simonson, Cary McAfoos, and Beth Hoekstra placed eighth in the field, running the eight-lap event in a time of 4:21.31, giving the Mastodons another point to their championship total.
The 800 saw Simonson miss reaching eighth place by less than two seconds, running a time of 2:22.08 for 10th place in the strong field. Hoekstra took 19th in a time of 2:26.60, with McAfoos and Nicky Parry placing 21st and 22nd with times of 2:41.71 and 2:57.96, respectively.
In the mile, four Mastodon runners competed, led by Felicia Mondry's 5:20.71, placing her 16th in the field. Becca Selner (19th), and Rachel Schultz (20th) finished back-to-back with times of 5:27.96 and 5:34.32, respectively. Anna Gruber was the final Mastodon finisher in the field, running a time of 5:58.06, placing 22nd overall.
Sophomore Whitney Lane took 14th in the triple jump, the event that she holds the IPFW school record in, leaping to a distance of 33-feet, .5-inches (10.07).
In the 5,000-meter run, junior Kim Matusik placed 15th, running the 3.1 miles in a time of 19:20.54.
Freshman thrower Kierstyn Jones placed 17th in the shot put with a toss of 31-3.25 (9.53 meters). Teammate Courtney Trout placed 19th with a throw of 26-11.25 (8.21 meters).
