Toledo, OH – Led by a school-record high jump by sophomore Katy Moore, the IPFW Mastodons completed their last meet prior to the Summit League Championships at the Toledo Invitational, the site of the 2010 league meet.
Moore’s leap of 1.64 meters (5-feet, 4.50-inches), was over an inch higher than her previous school record, as she placed fourth in the event, and has ten of the top 11 highest jumps in school history.
Crystina (Martinez) Ridenour nearly erased her sister’s name from the record book in the 1,500-meter run, but came up just over a second shy of the time of 4:44.24 put up by Crystal (Martinez) Reichert in 2008 with a time of 4:45.57, placing first in the field, in a personal best time, and the fifth fastest 1,500 ever run by a Mastodon. Rachel Schultz placed seventh in that same event (5:05.91), with Jessica McNulty taking 9th (5:08.55).
Reichert was not without her share of success tonight, as she took first in the steeple chase, leading a 1-2 finish of Mastodon runners, with Annina Gruber taking second in the field. Reichert finished with a time of 11:09.42, and Gruber 11:41.10. Kim Matusik, running in the open 3,000, took fifth in a time of 10:59.46.
Sophomore Courtney Bowen had a pair of top-10 finishes, placing fifth in the discus with a toss of 138-9 (42.29 meters), the third best discus throw in school history, while taking sixth in the shot put with a heave of 35-0.25 (10.67 meters). Teammate Kierstyn Jones placed ninth in the shot put with a throw of 33-8 (10.26 meters).
Rachel Schultz paced a trio of Mastodons in the 800-meter run, placing 15th in a time of 2:36.73, with Cari McAfoos (19th/2:40.12) and Nicky Parry (22nd/2:48.84) finishing just behind in the event.
Theresa McHugh leapt to a season-best leap of 14-8.5 (4.49 meters) in the long jump, as she is the seventh longest long jumper in school history.
The team takes a week off before traveling to Toledo, Ohio, for the three-day championships hosted by Oakland University at the University of Toledo track.
