Kalamazoo, MI - A powerful Western Michigan offense built on an early two-goal lead, downing the IPFW Mastodons in Kalamazoo, 4-2.
The Broncos struck twice before the IPFW offense could get rolling.
In the game's 20th minute, Joseph Beshara fed Shane Lyons to the right side of the box for a low line-drive score past the IPFW keeper for a 1-0 lead.
Ten minutes later, the Broncos would strike again, this time off the foot of CJ Brown. Brown took a soft touch pass from Oliver Mayer and converted inside the box for his second goal of the season.
In the 36th minute of play in the opening half, the Mastodon offense would convert on their first strike of the match. Max Touloute led a breakaway attack downfield, where he dropped a pass off to senior Chris Moreno. Moreno beat the keeper far side from inside the box to cut the deficit to one - a lead that would hold throughout the half.
Just seven minutes into the second half, the IPFW offense would strike again, evening the score to two a piece. Touloute, the centerpiece of the IPFW offense thus far in 2010, gathered a quick-touch free-kick from Jorge Ramirez on the right side and scored the game-knotting goal.
The Broncos would take another lead in the game's 69th minute as CJ Brown would net his second goal of the game. He headed in a free kick from Kai Mendes to give Western a 3-2 lead.
Joel Del Toro tacked on the final score of the game, sealing the Bronco victory with a shot to the low left side of the cage from Darren Jones, to close the final 4-2 victory.
Touloute led the IPFW offense with five shots while Donovan Dowling posted two saves for the 'Dons.
IPFW returns to action Tuesday (Sept. 14) as the Milwaukee Panthers will travel to Fort Wayne's Hefner Stadium for a 5:30 p.m. match.
