Loretto, PA - Two scores by Owen Gombabmi were enough for the Red Flash, as Saint Francis (Pa.) powered past the IPFW Mastodons Friday afternoon, 3-1.
Slow to start after the trip to Pennsylvania, the Mastodons found themselves with a two-goal deficit just 25 minutes into the match.
In the 18th minute of play, Owen Gombami took a long pass inside the box, firing from 17 yards out to beat the keeper for the opening score of the game.
Just eight minutes later, the Red Flash would strike again, this time with Sean O'Reilly converting a feed from Kingsley McLeod from 14 yards out from the left corner of the box to give his squad a two-goal advantage.
That lead would hold until deep into the second period of play.
A whistle inside the Red Flash box gave IPFW a PK in the game's 63rd minute. Junior forward Max Touloute, currently ranked seventh in the nation in scoring, burnt one past the keeper to cut the IPFW deficit to just one goal. Touloute's score gave him his fifth tally in seven games so far in the 2010 campaign.
The IPFW scramble to tie the game would suffer another setback in the 82nd minute of action as Gombami scored from 16 yards out to give his team the final 3-1 score.
IPFW was out-shot in the match, 16-10, including just three first half attempts. Four IPFW players took two shots each to lead in the category while Donovan Dowling posted a save in taking the loss.
The road loss drops the 'Dons to 2-5 overall. They will continue the weekend road swing Sunday as they travel to Cleveland State for a 1 p.m. matchup Sunday (Sept. 19) with the Vikings.
