Brookings, SD – South Dakota State hit its first two 3-pointers and never looked back in a dominating, 87-52 win over IPFW on Saturday night at Frost Arena.
The high-powered Jackrabbits offense lived up to its billing by leading wire-to-wire in the contest. Nate Wolters and Clint Sargent each drilled triples on the first two trips down the floor for the Jacks to open the flood gates that saw SDSU take a 20-point lead a the half, 42-22.
South Dakota State (13-7, 5-4 SL) put any idea of an IPFW comeback away by going on a 13-5 run to open the second half on the way to the 35-point win.
Sargent, who hit five 3-pointers in the game, led all scorers with 24 points. He was one of four Jacks in double figures.
IPFW got 14 points from sophomore guard Frank Gaines in the loss. Senior forward Oleg Kovalov was the only other Mastodon in double-digits with 12.
The loss drops IPFW to 12-7 overall on the year, and 6-3 in Summit League play.
IPFW returns from their road trip 1-1 and will host Centenary on Thursday night in the Expo Center of the Memorial Coliseum. Game time is 7:00 p.m.
