CINCINNATI - The #13/14 Xavier Musketeers used a 9-0 run early in the game, and an 8-2 run out of the locker room at halftime to take down the IPFW Mastodons on Tuesday evening at the Cintas Center by an 86-63 score.

Frank Gaines scored a team-high 22 points for IPFW, who falls to 1-1 on the season. Mario Hines pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds, while Jonny Marlin dished out five assists.

The teams went back and forth early, trading baskets with the Mastodons leading 6-5, just over three minutes into the contest. The Musketeers (2-0) responded by scoring nine straight points to lead by eight at 14-6. The 'Dons trailed by seven with 8:43 to play in the half; however, Xavier pushed and doubled the margin to 14 by the halftime break.

Out of the intermission, Xavier scored eight of the first ten points to push ahead by 20. The Mastodon deficit reached 23 before the feisty squad from Fort Wayne fought back, using an 8-0 run including back-to-back three-pointers by Michael Kibiloski to climb to within 15, and a 6-1 run to close the gap to 13.

After the deficit was cut to a bakers' dozen, Xavier scored nine straight to push the lead to 22, as the Musketeers closed the game leading by 23 at 86-63.

Kibiloski added 13 points for IPFW, as Trey McCorkle scored seven and pulled down seven rebounds, and Joe Edwards scored six and dished out two assists.

The Musketeers were led by 24 points from All-American guard Tu Holloway, while Mark Lyons scored 21.

IPFW returns to action on Monday, November 21, when the team plays host to Judson College with a 7 p.m. tip-off at the Memorial Coliseum.
