FORT WAYNE, Ind. - Behind a 17-point, 10-rebound double-double from Trey McCorkle and a 16-point performance from Mario Hines off the bench, the IPFW Mastodons scored 50 total points in the paint en route to a 26-point, 85-59 victory over the Judson Eagles on Monday evening at the Memorial Coliseum.
McCorkle's double-double was his second of the season, while Hines' point total is a new IPFW career-high. Frank Gaines added 16 points and a team-best three blocked shots, while Jason Smeathers chipped in 10, as all 11 players that saw action in the game reached the scoring column.
Jonny Marlin dished out a game-high four assists, as seven players had at least two assists in the lopsided win. Joe Edwards picked up four steals for IPFW, who had 11 total steals in the contest.
IPFW made 45.8 percent (33-of-72) of its shots from the field, but converted on just 2-of-18 from long range (11.1 percent) and 17-of-30 (56.7 percent) from the charity stripe, while out-rebounding the Eagles 49-33.
Judson came out of the gate on the mark, and led by as many as three at 7-4 early after a Caleb Sutton lay-in with 16:41 to play. The three-point advantage would prove to be the high-water mark for the Eagles, as IPFW ran off a 19-3 run over the next seven minutes, jumping ahead by 13 at 23-10.
The Mastodon advantage was cut to single digits for the final time at 32-23 with just under four minutes to play in the half; however, IPFW countered by out-scoring the visitors 11-0 over the next three minutes, taking a 43-26 lead into the locker room at halftime.
Runs of 8-0 and 12-0 in the second half gave IPFW a comfortable margin, as head coach Tony Jasick was able to empty his bench, and everyone that saw action had at least two points and one rebound.
Isaiah McCray picked up career-highs with seven points and seven rebounds for IPFW, as Hines also added seven boards. Marlin pulled down six rebounds to go with his four assists.
The Mastodons rest for the Thanksgiving weekend before traveling to Iowa City, Iowa, to face off against the Hawkeyes of the University of Iowa at Carver Hawkeye Arena in a 1 p.m. (EST) tip.
