FORT WAYNE, Ind. - After opening the year with a 2-2 overall record, the IPFW Mastodons open play in the Summit League, hosting the Kangaroos of UMKC at the Memorial Coliseum on Thursday evening.

According to the ESPN.com Men's Basketball Season Stats, IPFW junior Frank Gaines currently ranks in a tie
for sixth in the country in points per game, averaging 23.0 per contest. He has reached the 20-point plateau
in three of the team's four games this season
SCOUTING THE KANGAROOS
UMKC comes into the Coliseum with a 3-4 overall record after winning two straight and claiming
the Chicago Invitational Challenge Title with a 93-53 victory over Longwood. UMKC has also topped
Nebraska Omaha by three, while falling to NCAA Division II Northwest Missouri State, Bradley, Utah
Valley, and Wisconsin.
This years' team has been paced by Reggie Chamberlain, who averages a team-best 17.7 points
per game. Trinity Hall pours in 11.1 points per contest while Kirk Korver, younger brother of Chicago
Bulls forward Kyle Korver, scores 6.4. The 'Roos sport four players that average between 6.0 and
6.4 points per game, as Dustin Dibble (6.3), Estan Tyler (6.0), and Bernard Kamwa (6.0) all fall
within that range as well.
Thomas Staton pulls down a team-leading five rebounds per game, as UMKC is out-rebounded
by an average of five rebounds per contest. Tyler leads the team with 17 assists, with Chamberlain
and Staton each have dished out 15, while Staten also leads the team with nine blocks and 10
steals.

The Iowa Hawkeyes forced 23 IPFW turnovers, converting them into 33 points, holding off a feisty Mastodon
squad late in the game to come away with an 82-72 victory at Carver Hawkeye Arena on Saturday afternoon.
Frank Gaines scored a game-high 25 points for IPFW, who fell to 2-2. Trey McCorkle and Mario Hines each
scored a dozen points, Jason Smeathers scored nine, while Joe Edwards chipped in seven.
McCorkle pulled down a game-high eight rebounds, as the Mastodons out-rebounded Iowa 30-to-26. Hines
grabbed six boards, while Gaines had five. John Peckinpaugh dished out a team-best three assists, while
Gaines had two steals.
The Mastodons made 52.3 percent of its shots (23-of-44), led by Gaines who was 10-of-14 from the field,
and 3-of-4 from long range. McCorkle led the charges at the charity stripe by going 8-for-8, as the team made
19-of-26 shots (73.1 percent).
