Big Green Travels to Fort Wayne for Non-Conference Battle

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The IPFW Mastodons and Dartmouth Big Green face off on the hardwood for the first time in each programs' history, as the two will meet at the Memorial Coliseum on Tuesday, December 13.

SCOUTING THE BIG GREEN
Dartmouth comes into the game with a 2-6 overall record, having lost its last three games to Central Michigan, New Hampshire, and Notre Dame.
The Big Green average 56.6 points per game, ranked 319th of 338 teams in the country; however Dartmouth is giving up just 61.9 points per game, 75th best in NCAA Division I. R.J. Griffin and Gabas Maldunas average 10.4 and 10.1 points per game each, while David Rufful scores 9.5 points per contest.
Maldunas and Jvonte Brooks each pull down 5.5 rebounds per game for the Big Green, who get out-rebounded by an average of 2.3 rebounds per game. Jabari Trotter has dished out 19 assists, as Dartmouth has five players with 10 or more assistso n the year. Maldunas has 10 blocked shots, and Mack McKearney has a team-best nine steals, while Griffin and Rufful have seven apiece.
LAST TIME OUT
The IPFW Mastodons erased a 15-point second half deficit to force overtime and held on in the extra stanza for an 83-80 victory over the Nebraska Omaha Mavericks at the Sapp Fieldhouse.
Trey McCorkle scored a game-high 25 points while Jonny Marlin had his first career double-double with 13 points and career-high 10 assists, while Joe Edwards added a career-high 10 points in the win. McCorkle and Edwards each pulled down seven rebounds, as the Mastodons out-rebounded the Mavericks 52-to-47 in the win.
Marlin's 10 assists game against no turnovers, while Jason Smeathers and McCorkle each had three assists apiece. McCorkle led IPFW with two blocks, as Isaiah McCray picked up a pair of steals.
SMALL WONDER
IPFW freshman guard Jonny Marlin is averaging 5.9 assists per game, tied for 26th in the NCAA this season. At 5-feet, 10-inches in height, he is one of just five players in the top 30 to be under six feet tall, and is the second shortest of the group (Chaz Williams of Massachusetts at 5-9 is 21st). Marlin is also one of just three freshmen to be ranked in the top-30 in assists, joining Dylan Garrity of Sacramento State (6.3 apg) and Myck Kabongo of Texas (6.1 apg).
IPFW VS. THE IVY LEAGUE
Tuesday's game against Dartmouth is not only the first time the two teams have met, but it is the first time that the Mastodons have faced off against a team from the Ivy League.
QUICK HITTERS
• The unstoppable force goes up against the immovable object on Tuesday, as IPFW ranks 36th in the country in scoring, and Dartmouth 71st in fewest points allowed.
• Frank Gaines currently sits first in the Summit League and 11th in NCAA Division I in scoring, averaging 21.4 points per game.
• After totaling one double-double over his first three seasons, IPFW senior Trey McCorkle has picked up two in the first eight games of the 2011-12 season.
• IPFW head coach Tony Jasick is 5-3 in his first season as head coach of the Mastodons
• Gaines saw his 19-game double-figure scoring streak snapped at Nebraska Omaha on December 11, being held to seven points. He currently has scored 20 or more in eight of his last ten games.
• Freshman Jonny Marlin's 5.9 assist per game average is third best in the Summit League, as he also has the third highest assist-per-game average of any freshman in the country
• Trey McCorkle's field goal percentage of 60.7 puts him 24th in the country
• IPFW has out-rebounded its opponents by an average of 6.8 rebounds per game, the 34th best total in the country.
