Mastodon Men Look to Rebound Against Coyotes

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The IPFW Mastodon men's basketball team looks to rebound from its Summit League-opening loss when it takes on the South Dakota Coyotes for the first time in each of the program's histories on homecoming at the Memorial Coliseum.

SCOUTING THE COYOTES
South Dakota comes into Fort Wayne after dropping its Summit League opener to the Grizzlies of Oakland by
a 101-83 score on Thursday evening.
The Coyotes got 78 percent of its scoring from three individuals, as Louis Krogman scored 26, Trevor Gruis
20, and Charlie Westbrook 19. Jordan Boots added nine, while Allen Saint Gelais chipped in 8.
For the season, Westbrook leads the team in scoring, averaging 15.7 points per game, while Krogman is
close behind averaging 15.5, as there is a one-point difference between the pair in the season totals. Gruis
also averages in double-figures at 11.5 points per game, as the next highest average sits at 6.0 (Boots).
Ricardo Andreotti has pulled down 6.8 rebounds per game in the four games he has played in, while Gruis
leads the recently active players with a 5.5 rebound per game average. Overall, South Dakota has been outrebounded
by an average of 5.7 rebounds per contest.
Krogman has a team-best 16 assists, while Westbrook and Andreotti have each blocked six shots.
LAST TIME OUT
The UMKC Kangaroos made 27-of-45 of its shots from the field (60 percent), topping IPFW 81-66 despite the
Mastodons out-rebounding the guests by a 40-to-21 margin in the contest.
IPFW falls to 2-3 on the season, and now 0-1 in league play while UMKC evens its record at 4-4, and 1-0
in Summit League action.
Frank Gaines, the country's sixth leading scorer, poured in a game-high 22 points, while Trey McCorkle
added 18. John Peckinpaugh scored seven for IPFW, while adding two assists and a game-high-tying two
steals. Gaines pulled down a game-high seven rebounds, as Jonny Marlin dished out five assists.
QUICK HITTERS
• Frank Gaines currently sits first in the Summit League and sixth in NCAA Division I in scoring, averaging 22.8 points per game.
• After totaling one double-double over his first three seasons, IPFW senior Trey McCorkle has picked up two in the first five games of the 2011-12 season.
• IPFW head coach Tony Jasick is 2-3 in his first season as head coach of the Mastodons
• Gaines has reached double-figure scoring in each of his last 17 games dating back to last season, and has scored 20 or more in six of his last seven.
• Since being held to four points on January 20 at North Dakota State, Gaines has averaged 19.9 points per game, totaling 17 total contests
• IPFW is out-rebounding its opponents by an average of 8.8 rebounds per game
• McCorkle and Hines each rank inside of the top-six in the Summit League in field goal percentage
• Of the nine games IPFW has played on December 3, only one has been played at home for IPFW.
