Mastodons Close Homestand against Crusaders

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The IPFW Mastodons will close its three-game homestand on Wednesday, hosting the Crusaders of Valparaiso in a 7:00 p.m. tip at the Memorial Coliseum.

According to the latest NCAA Statistical rankings, IPFW junior Frank Gaines currently ranks seventh in the
country in points per game, averaging 23.3 per contest. He has reached the 20-point plateau in five of the
team's six games this season
SCOUTING THE CRUSADERS
Valparaiso comes into the game with a 6-2 overall record, and ranked 22nd in the CollegeInsider.com Mid-
Major Top-25 Poll.
Leading the way for the team has been a quartet of players averaging in double-figure points, led by Kevin
Van Wijk who averages 14.1, while Ryan Broekhoff also averages 14.1. Richie Edwards pours in 12.8 points
per contest, as Jay Harris averages 11.3. Matt Kenney and Will Bogan are just off of the double-figure pace at
8.0 and 7.5 points per game, each.
Broekhoff pulls down 9.6 rebounds per game, as the Crusaders out-rebound its opponents by an average
of 7.2 rebounds per game. Broekhoff also leads the team in assists, having dished out 21 this season, with
Kenney grabbing 12 steals, and Broekhoff blocking a team-best nine shots.
LAST TIME OUT
Frank Gaines scored 26, as IPFW had seven players with at least eight points in a 92-87 victory over the South
Dakota Coyotes on Saturday evening.
The win evens IPFW's record to 3-3 overall and 1-1 in Summit League play while South Dakota falls to 2-5
and 0-2 in the league.
Gaines, who leads the Summit League in scoring and ranks sixth in the country, scored 26 points on 8-of-
15 shooting and 9-of-10 from the charity stripe. John Peckinpaugh scored a career-high 12 points, as Jason
Smeathers and Michael Kibiloski each scored 10, Joe Edwards put in nine, and Trey McCorkle and Mario Hines
each added eight points int he win.
Hines grabbed a team-best eight rebounds, with Peckinpaugh adding seven, as IPFW out-rebounded the
Coyotes 38-to-28, the third time in the last four games that the Mastodons have held a +10 margin or greater
on the boards. Jonny Marlin dished out five assists, with Kibiloski adding four, while Hines had a game-high
two blocked shots.

• Frank Gaines currently sits first in the Summit League and sixth in NCAA Division I in scoring, averaging 23.3 points per game.
• After totaling one double-double over his first three seasons, IPFW senior Trey McCorkle has picked up two in the first six games of the 2011-12 season.
