Greensboro, NC - The IPFW softball team, behind the second two-hitter of the season by junior Courtney Cronin, improved to 2-0 on the young season with an 8-0, five-inning victory over tournament host North Carolina A&T on Saturday afternoon.

Cronin picked up her second consecutive shutout, giving her 18 for her career, and into a tie for seventh most in Summit League history, while her four strikeouts puts her to 289 for her career, tied for 18th most in a career in league history.

In addition to her pitching performance, Cronin went 2-for-3 at the plate with a pair of runs driven in. Rachel Staschuk scored twice, while Sara Jacobson drove in three, while Cronin and Cassie Wolfe each chased home a pair.

Cronin got the eventual game-winning RBI with a two-run single in the first inning, giving the Mastodons a quick 2-0 lead.

After a three-up, three-down second inning, the IPFW offense erupted with five runs, the first two coming via a Wolfe home run. Jacobson followed with a bases-loaded double, driving home Sara Hopwood, Ashleigh Bousquet, and Cronin, pushing IPFW to a 7-0 lead through three innings.

A fielding error by the Aggie right field allowed Rachel Staschuk to score, giving the game its 8-0 final margin. A 1-2-3 top of the fifth inning gave the Mastodons its second consecutive shutout.

The Mastodons had just four hits in the game, going 4-of-17 at the plate.

IPFW returns to action for two games on Sunday, the first against Western Carolina starting at 9:00 AM, before facing off against Presbyterian at 1:00 PM.
