Mastodons Fall to Robert Morris in Winners' Bracket

CLEVELAND - No. 4 Purdue Fort Wayne softball fell to No. 2 seed Robert Morris 10-2 on Friday (May 9) in the winners' bracket of the Horizon League Championship.
Robert Morris advanced from the winners' bracket to the championship game with a 10-2 win over the Mastodons in the 2:30 game.
The Mastodons got off to a good start with a run in the first inning. Bailey Manos (Harrison, Ohio/William Henry Harrison) had a leadoff double and advanced to second on a single from Grace Hollopeter (Lake Village, Ind./North Newton). Addison Zimpleman drove in Manos for an early 1-0 lead.
The Colonials answered with the five runs in the first inning, which was ultimately enough to win the contest. The home team on the scoreboard scored three in the third and two more in the fourth to send the Mastodons into the elimination game.
In the third inning, Hollopeter had a triple that scored Gwen McMenemy. Hollopeter finished 2-for-2 with one RBI and a walk. Manos also went 2-for-2.
Alanah Jones suffered the loss after giving up four earned runs on seven hits. Madison DeVault earned the win, allowing two runs, one earned, and four hits in 5.0 innings.
Purdue Fort Wayne (20-25) moved to the elimination bracket to play Cleveland State.
