Macomb, IL - Frank Gaines dropped in a game-high 20 points and Ben Botts added 15 as IPFW topped Western Illinois, 67-56 on Saturday night at Western Hall in Macomb, Illinois.

The Mastodons trailed just once, 2-0 and led the rest of the way in dominating the Leathernecks for their 15th win of the season (15-8).

A 3-pointer by senior guard Zach Plackemeier at the buzzer gave IPFW a 34-19 halftime lead in a foul-plagued opening 20-minutes.

IPFW led by as many as 23 in the second half on a Gaines layup, 48-25. They would eventually call off the pressure and coast to the 67-56 final.

Western Illinois (7-16, 2-10 SL) was led in scoring by forward Kaimarr Price with 17 points. Matt Lander added 16.

Junior guard Jeremy Mixon added 12 for the Mastodons, who improved to 9-4 in league play with the victory.

IPFW will return to action on Tuesday night hosting Chicago State in non-conference play at 7:00 p.m.
