Macomb, IL - IPFW used a balanced scoring effort that saw five players reach double-figure scoring, led by Chelsey Jackson's game-high 19 points, including the 1,000th of the senior's career, as the Mastodons ran away with a 73-54 Summit League victory.
The win improves IPFW's season record to 15-6 and 9-3 in Summit League play. The overall record is the program's best since the 1995-96 season, and the best start to a Summit League season since joining the league in 2007-08.
Jackson made 8-of-15 shots from the field, and both of her charity stripe attempts en route to her 19 points, while also picking off a career-high-tying five steals. Anne Boese scored 11 points including a perfect 3-for-3 from long range, while Stephanie Rosado, Jordan Zuppe, and Erin Murphy each scored 10.
Rosado added 10 rebounds for her sixth double-double this season, and her second in two games against the Leathernecks. Zuppe added eight assists, as the Mastodons had a 15-to-13 assist-to-turnover ratio for the contest.
IPFW jumped out quickly to start the game, scoring the contest's first six points, and never relinquishing the lead for the remainder of the game. The lead was increased to a dozen at 18-6 after a Jackson jumper with 13:21 left in the first half. After a pair of Anne Borgertpoepping free throws cut the deficit to 10 at 18-8, IPFW ran off a 10-0 run on a Jackson lay-up, a pair of Murphy free throws, and three-pointers from Zuppe and Boese, to push the lead to 20 at 28-8
The Leathernecks clawed their way back into the game, ending the first half on a 9-2 run to close the gap to a dozen at 28-26 heading into the locker room at halftime.
WIU's Erica Lewis opened the second half with a lay-in 22 seconds into the final period, before the 'Dons ran off six straight points on a jumper by Boese, a lay-up by Weinert, and a jumper by Zuppe to push the lead again to 16.
The lead was cut to only as few as 12 the rest of the way, the last time with 10:31 to play in the game, before IPFW ran off a 12-3 run to increase the lead to 21, cruising the rest of the way in the 19-point Summit League win.
The Mastodons hit a season-high 58.7 percent (27-of-46) of its shots, while converting on 8-of-13 from long range, a percentage of .615, the first time this season the 'Dons have hit over half of their three-point shots for a game, and the seventh highest percentage in school history.
Michele Salvatori scored a team-high 15 points for the Leathernecks, adding eight rebounds, while Sadie Webb added 11 points in the losing effort.
The 'Dons return to the court on Monday, February 7, when the squad travels east to Indianapolis, to face off against the Jaguars of IUPUI with tip-off slated for 7:00 PM at the Jungle.
