ALL-CONFERENCE HONORS
IPFW junior Stephanie Rosado became the second player in IPFW history to be named to the First Team All-Summit League, joining Johnna Lewis-Carlisle who earned the honor in the Mastodons' inagural season in the league. Senior Jordan Zuppe was named to the Second Team, the third straight year IPFW has put someone on that team, while Anne Boese was named to the Honorable Mention squad. Sophomore transfer Kayla Drake was named to the All-Newcomer team, giving the Mastodons one person on that team in each of its four years in the league (Zuppe in 2007-08, current student-assistant coach Eva Ivanova in 2008-09, and Rosado in 2009-10).
GOOOOOOOAAAAAALLLLLLL...WELL KIND OF
Because of injuries to sophomores forward Sydney Weinert and guard Kayla Drake, each will be wearing special headgear, designed for soccer, to help prevent further injuries. The IPFW athletic training staff has been an innovator in the field of using non-basketball gear this season during basketball, as the IPFW men's basketball team features a player (John Peckinpaugh), who wears boxing headgear, also to prevent further head injury. Peckinpaugh was featured on Yahoo! sports and ESPN this season.
20-20-20-20-20-20 VISION
This season IPFW has six different players who have scored at least 20 points in a game: Stephanie Rosado, Anne Boese, Jordan Zuppe, Chelsey Jackson, Kayla Drake, and Amanda Hyde. The six mark the most for IPFW in a single season since joining NCAA Division I in 2001-02. The previous high was four, set five previous times in the ten years of Division I basketball for the Mastodons.
REACHING for 20-WINS
The IPFW women's basketball program has three previous 20-win seasons, and in each the team advanced to the NCAA Tournament, all as members of NCAA Division II. In 1989-90 the team put together its first 20-win season, going 22-7 before falling to Oakland in the first round of the NCAA Tournament 87-83. Two seasons later the team also finished 22-7, before dropping its NCAA Tournament game to Washburn 82-67. Four years later the team finished 23-5, the program's best single-season record, before losing to Lake Superior State 79-71 in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament.
IPF - ”W”
The team's 19 wins this season are tied for the fourth most in program history, and six more than in any of the schools NCAA Division I seasons. The 1995-96 team, with its 23-5 record, is the high-water mark for a season, while in 1989-90 and 1991-92, the team finished 22-7. The 19 wins ties with the 2000-01 (19-8) and 1990-91 (19-9) for fourth place on the all-time list. IPFW head coach Chris Paul has helped lead IPFW to win totals that either equalled or surpassed the previous season's total in five of the six seasons he has been at the helm of the program. The team went from five wins the year before he became coach to six in a brief stint as interim head coach in the second half of 2005-06. In 2006-07 the team won 12 games, which was the total again in 2007-08. 2008-09 saw a momentary lapse in the trend, as the team went 9-21, before seeing a 13-17 record a season ago.

SCOUTING THE KANGAROOS
UMKC comes into Saturday's rematch after falling 63-61 to Oakland on Monday evening.
LeAndrea Thomas scored a team-high 15 points, making 6-of-13 shots from the field, while Kim Nezianya scored 10 points and pulled down 11 rebounds off of the bench. Ashli Hill scored nine points, while Dayon Hall-Jones scoring six. Thomas and Hall-Jones each dished out four assists, while Hill had five blocked shots.
In the game, Oakland led by as many as nine as late as 12:53 to play in the game, before the 'Roos chipped away at the gap, and eventually leading by one with 58 seconds left after an Eilise O'Connor three-point basket. The Grizzlies hit a pair of free throws with 33 seconds left, before Kaycie Boyles missed a pair of charity stripe attempts with nine seconds left that would have tied, or given UMKC the lead. After Oakland's Zakiya Minifee hit one of two free throws, before Thomas missed at the buzzer, giving the Grizzlies the win.
This season the 'Roos have no players averaging double-figure points, and are led by O'Connor and Hall-Jones who each put up 9.8 points per game. Nezianya, Hill, and Thomas average 6.7, 6.1, and 6.0 points per game, each. Nezianya is the team's leading rebounder, averaging 5.8 rebounds per contest, while Brianna Eldridge averages 5.5 boards per game, with the Kangaroos out-rebounding its opponents by 3.6 rebounds per game.
Hill has blocked 70 shots during the season, tied for the second most in the league this season, while Boyles has swatted 20. Thomas has a team-leading 50 steals, while O'Connor has dished out 81 assists.
SERIES AGAINST UMKC
The Mastodons and Kangaroos are meeting for the ninth time in the series, with each team taking half of the eight previous games. IPFW started the series by winning three of the first four, before UMKC rebounded to take three of the last four, including an 80-71 Kangaroo victory in Kansas City a week ago.
FIRST GAME AGAINST UMKC
IPFW was able to overcome its second consecutive cold-shooting night on Monday evening, scoring seven of the final dozen points of the game to climb to 1-1 in Summit League play with a 60-58 victory over the UMKC Kangaroos.
IPFW was led by Anne Boese who scored 13 points, while Sydney Weinert had 11 points and a career-high-tying 14 rebounds. Stephanie Rosado finished two rebounds shy of her second consecutive double-double with 10 points and eight rebounds, while adding a pair of blocked shots.
SECOND GAME AGAINST UMKC
The UMKC Kangaroos took the lead with 8:18 remaining in the first half, and never trailed again, despite six tie scores in the second half, with the Mastodons falling in the Summit League game 80-71 at the Swinney Recreation Center on Saturday afternoon.
Anne Boese scored a team-high 20 points on 7-of-9 shooting and 6-of-8 from long range, while Stephanie Rosado added 19 and Sydney Weinert and Chelsey Jackson each finished with 10. Jordan Zuppe dished out five assists, while Weinert pulled down nine rebounds to pace the squad, while Rosado had eight.
Rosado added three blocked shots, giving her 46 for the season, two away from the single-season school record, and 85 over her career, moving her to second place in the career category at IPFW.
CLIMBING THE CONFERENCE LADDER
IPFW senior Jordan Zuppe is either ranked, or near being ranked, inside of the top-20 all-time in the Summit League record books. She is currently third in career three-point baskets made and attempted, and is just 10 assists away from climbing into the top-20 in the category. Teammate Anne Boese is currently 9th in Summit League history in career three-point baskets made, and tied for 12th in three-point field goals attempted.

RECORD-SETTER
Within a two-game span, IPFW senior Jordan Zuppe set a pair of IPFW career records. Against SIU Edwardsville, Zuppe became the career leader in three-point field goals made, moving past Amy Gearlds, who had 239 in her two years with the program. Then against North Dakota State, Zuppe played in her 115th career game, more than any other player in program history, and one past the previous record holder, Johnna Lewis-Carlisle, who finished her four-year career with 114 games played.
SHARP SHOOTING
IPFW has had its share of sharp shooting lately, hitting over half of its shots in six of the last nine games, and nine times in the last 16 contests, raising the team's shooting percentage from .409 on December 29, to its current standing of .450. The team had made over half of its shots in four straight games, the longest such streak in the program's Division I history, and has 10 total games shooting over .500 this season, as the program had 10 total games shooting over .500 from 2003-04 until 2009-10, seven total seasons and 203 games.
ONCE, TWICE, THREE TIMES FOR IPFW
After her strong performance against Oakland on Saturday, February 12, IPFW senior Jordan Zuppe has been named the Summit League Player of the Week. For Zuppe, it was her first honor of the season, and the second in her career, as she earned the honor in the last week of the 2007-08 season, her freshman year. Zuppe joins Stephanie Rosado (November 23), and Kayla Drake (January 25) as Mastodons who have earned the honor this season. Having three different players from the same team earn the honor is a first for the Summit League since Oakland had Hanna Reising, Nicole Piggott, and Jessica Pike earn Player of the Week honors in the 2006-07 season.
FIRST WINS
Before January 22 and 24, the Mastodons had never previously defeated South Dakota State or North Dakota State in Summit League play, and within that three-day span, both of those streaks came to an end, the first with a 70-67 overtime win over South Dakota State, and the latter with a 68-55 win at North Dakota State. Adding to the first wins category, IPFW won its first game on Oakland University's home floor, the O'rena, for the first time in nine previous tries.
LAST TIME OUT
IPFW put five players in double figures, and had a sixth with nine points, as the balanced effort helped to pace the Mastodons to a 90-68 victory over the Southern Utah University Thunderbirds in the 2010-11 regular season finale.
The win improves IPFW's record to 19-9 on the year, and 13-5 in league play, while Southern Utah falls to 16-13 overall, and 10-8 in the Summit League. IPFW's league record has clinched sole possession of second place in the upcoming Summit League Tournament, and will face off against seventh seed UMKC in the opening round on March 5, while Southern Utah falls to the fifth seed, and will face fourth seed Oakland in the tournament.
Amanda Hyde scored a career-high 21 points, making 5-of-7 shots from long range, while Chelsey Jackson and Jordan Zuppe each scored 17. Sydney Weinert tied her career-high with 14 points, with Stephanie Rosado scoring 10, and Anne Boese nine.
Weinert and Zuppe each pulled down five rebounds, while Jackson and Zuppe dished out five assists. Jackson picked up five steals, with Rosado adding four.
STOP, THIEF!
Against South Dakota State on January 22, IPFW sophomore Kayla Drake became the first player in program history to have a points-steals double-double, as she broke the school single-game record, previously held by Lindy Jones, the younger sister of current IPFW assistant coach Kip Jones. The 10 steals are tied for the most in NCAA Division I this season, and is tied for the fourth highest single-game total in a Summit League game in the history of the league.
ITS ALL BINARY
For those familiar with computer programing, binary numbers are the language of 1's and 0's that computers speak; however, there was nothing robotic about IPFW senior Jordan Zuppe on Sunday against Hampton. The senior scored a season-high 17 points and pulled down a career-high-tying eight rebounds. What was unique was the series of 1's and 0's that accompany the evening. Zuppe scored her 1,000th point in the game, which was also her 100th in a Mastodon uniform. Add to it that it was the 10th game of the season, in IPFW's 10th season as a Division 1 member, and finally the fact that Zuppe ended the game with 1,010 career points, you have enough to keep a computer talking for months.
HAPPY NEW YEAR
In the month of January, IPFW had a 6-1 record, the second-best January record in program history. The 1990-91 team went 8-1 in the year's first month, while the 1991-92 and 1993-94 teams each went 7-2, and 1995-96 6-2.
M-MILESTONES COME IN PAIRS
There are 15 current members of the 1,000-point club (Roman Numeral 'M'), and now on four occasions, teammate milestones came in the same season. The first duo to reach 1,000-career points in the same season was Lisa Miller and Robin Scott in 1989-90. It was Miller's sophomore year and Scott's junior season, as the pair currently rank 1st and 6th on the all-time scoring list. Lindy Jones and Jennie Newhard each accomplished the feat in 1994-95, Jones' coming early in her junior season, and Newhard as a senior. The next duo was Johnna Lewis-Carlisle and Ashley Johnson. Lewis-Carlisle was a junior, while Johnson was a senior. The feat happened again this season by way of seniors Jordan Zuppe and Chelsey Jackson. Zuppe reached 1,000 points on December 19 against Hampton, while Jackson did it on February 5 at Western Illinois.
BOMBS AWAY
When IPFW faced off against Oral Roberts, few predicted the explosion from long range that would ensue. The Mastodons attempted 44 shots from long range, a mark that tops the previous Summit League single-game total, set by Troy in the 1995-96 season and by Oral Roberts last year. The team's 17 makes puts the Mastodons into a tie for third all-time, behind only a pair of 18-make games by the Golden Eagles a season ago. IPFW junior Anne Boese was one of the primary catalysts for the offensive explosion, making 7-of-17 shots from long range. The seven makes puts her in a tie for fifth on the Summit League single-game totals in league games, while the 17 attempts are tied for the second most in league history, and tied for the highest total in a conference game. As per the IPFW record book, the 44 attempts are tied for the third highest total, and the 17 makes are the second most. Boese's seven makes ranks in a tie for fourth, while the 17 attempts ties the school record.
COACH CHRIS PAUL
With the team's victory at South Dakota State on January 22, 2011, IPFW head coach Chris Paul became the all-time program wins leader with the Mastodons. His current record of 71-96 gives him more career wins than the previous two coaches (Bruce Patterson, 27; and Karl Smesko, 32) combined.
Coach | Record | Pct. |
Chris Paul | 71-96 (6) | .425 |
Teri Rosinski | 63-46 (4) | .578 |

Kathy Kissinger | 7-7 (1) | .500 |
Denise Knuth | 3-20 (1) | .130 |
TOTALS | 402-505 | .443 |
PLAYER OF THE WEEK, VERSION 2.0
IPFW sophomore Kayla Drake was named the Summit League Player of the Week on January 25, after recording 16 steals and 38 points in games against South Dakota State and North Dakota State, helping the Mastodons to its first wins in Fargo and Brookings since joining the Summit League. She is the second player this season to have earned a Player of the Week honor, the first time since IPFW joined the league in 2007-08 that the 'Dons have had two players earn the honor in a single season.
THREE-POINT STREAK
The IPFW Mastodons have made a three-point basket in each of its last 373 games, a stretch that ranks as the sixth longest active streak in NCAA Division I. Iowa State's streak is at the top of the list by making a three-point basket in 513 games. Sam Houston State, Connecticut, Loyola, and Southeast Missouri State all fall in line ahead of IPFW. The previous NCAA record was 408 games, held by Cleveland State. This season two teams have seen its three-point streak snapped, the first was when Tennessee saw its 422 consecutive game streak snapped on January 2 against LSU, going 0-7 from long range, before Canisius was shut out from long range, going 0-for-12 against Iona, snapping a 510 game streak, which was at the time, the longest active streak in NCAA history.

FINDING HER TARGET
Two days after her 7-for-17 eruption against Oral Roberts, Anne Boese took just long range shots against Centenary, however, by making six of those, she etched her name in the school's record book for the second highest percentage in program history.
IPFW VS. THE SUMMIT LEAGUE
In Summit League regular season action, IPFW is nine games above .500 at 40-31 all-time in league play, and the 'Dons are 41-40 under the direction of head coach Chris Paul against teams currently in the Summit League.
DOUBLE-DOUBLE
With her double-double against Western Illinois on February 5, IPFW junior Stephanie Rosado has moved into a tie for fifth place in the school's record books with 12 career double-doubles. Lisa Miller has the school record with 31, with Verea Bibbs in second with 20. Below is a listing of the top-10 double-double leaders in school history.
Rank | Student-Athlete | 2B-2B | Seasons |
1 | Lisa Miller | 31 | 1988-92 |
2 | Verea Bibbs | 20 | 2001-05 |
t-3 | Robin Scott | 13 | 1987-91 |

t-8 | Sarah Turner | 9 | 1987-89 |
t-8 | Teena Merrell | 9 | 1986-90 |
10 | Trish Fleming | 8 | 1999-01 |
BACK-TO-BACK DOUBLE-DOUBLES
Stephanie Rosado did something that hasn't been done since the 1999-00 season - pick up three straight double-doubles. It was the first time since Trish Fleming had three straight against St. Joseph's, Indianapolis, and Northern Kentucky. The school record for consecutive double-doubles is four, set by Sarah Turner in 1987-88, Tarri Lydy in 1985-86, and Rhonda Unverferth in 1983-84.
BIG DEBUTS
When Kayla Drake and Amanda Hyde reached double-figure scoring in their IPFW debuts, they join three other IPFW players on the current roster to have scored in double figures in their first game in a Mastodon uniform. Jordan Zuppe scored 18 against Toledo on November 11, 2007, while a year later, Anne Boese scored 17 in the season opener against Illinois. Stephanie Rosado became the third player in as many seasons to accomplish the feat when she scored 15 against Wright State, with the pair joining the list this year.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
IPFW junior Stephanie Rosado was named the Summit League Player of the Week on November 23 after scoring 22 points and pulling down 12 rebounds against Youngstown State on November 20. It was the second time that Rosado has been named a Summit League Player of the Week (she earned the award February 9 last season), and just the fourth time overall that a Mastodon has been named a Player of the Week, joining Johnna Lewis Carlisle (January 29) and Jordan Zuppe (March 4) who both were named to the award in 2007-08.
COLD WIN
On December 6, the IPFW Mastodons made just 17-of-61 shots from the field, a percentage of .279. What was unique about that game was that the Mastodons prevailed 60-58 over the Kangaroos of UMKC. The .279 shooting percentage is the lowest in school history in a game in which IPFW was victorious. Below are the five lowest shooting percentage wins in school history. Of the top-15 lowest shooting percentage wins, 12 came at either the Memorial Coliseum or the Gates Sports Center
Pct. | Opponent | Date | Field Goals |
.279 | UMKC | 12/6/2010 | 17-of-61 |
.299 | vs. Saginaw Valley State | 11/19/1999 | 23-of-77 |
.300 | Western Illinois | 1/26/2009 | 18-of-60 |
.304 | Lewis | 12/23/1985 | 24-of-79 |
.311 | vs. Savannah State | 3/5/2005 | 19-of-61 |
PRESEASON EXPECTATIONS
The Mastodons were picked to finish fourth in the Summit League by the league's coaches, media, and sports information directors. The fourth place pick was the highest in any of the four seasons that the 'Dons have been in the league. Also picking up preseason honors were juniors Stephanie Rosado and Anne Boese, Rosado to the Preseason First Team, and Boese to the Second Team.
BLOCK PARTY
On the same day that Stephanie Rosado was named the Summit League Player of the Week, the junior erupted for a near triple-double, including a school-record eight blocked shots, six of those coming in the first half. With Sydney Weinert's 11 blocks added in, it was the first time IPFW has had at least 10 blocked shots in a game since December 2, 2005 against Kalamazoo, when the squad also had 11.
MASTODONS ADD ANOTHER
Former Pendleton Heights High School standout Mur Hagerman has enrolled at IPFW and will be eligible to compete in January of 2012.
