Oxford, OH - The IPFW Mastodons stepped out of Summit League play on Wednesday afternoon, coming away from its meeting with the Miami (Ohio) University RedHawks with a 4-2 win over the Mid-American Conference foe and giving the team its seventh consecutive win on the season.

Ashleigh Bousquet had a hand in each of the team's four runs in the game, going 1-for-2 with a run scored and three runs driven in. Courtney Cronin went the entire seven innings, striking out six and allowed two runs on nine hits to improve her record to 12-6 on the season. The win is the 39th of her career, moving her into a tie for 12th all-time in Summit League history.

The Mastodons got on the scoreboard first in the second inning when Alex Bousquet hit a two-out single, scoring twin sister Ashleigh and pushing IPFW to a 1-0 lead.

An inning later Bousquet gave the Mastodons a 3-0 lead with a two-run double that scored Sarah Swanson and Courtney Cronin.

Miami snapped the shutout attempt in the bottom of the third inning when Kayla Ledbetter hit an infield single to score Jordan McElroy. IPFW got that run back in the top of the fifth inning when Ashleigh Bousquet hit into an RBI groundout, scoring pinch-runner Kaylee Faurote.

With IPFW once again ahead by three at 4-1, the RedHawks, who are now 16-13 on the season, got a run back, again scored by McElroy, who was driven in by Ledbetter.

The final two innings were scoreless for each team, as the Mastodons improved to 17-8-1 on the season with the two-run victory.

Kristina Karpun was 2-for-4 for the Mastodons, with the team's other five hits coming from Swanson, Cronin, Brittany Kachur and one by each of the Bousquets.

RedHawk starting pitcher Paige Myers picked up the loss for the hosts, going the first two and two-thirds of an inning, striking out two and allowing three earned runs while relief pitcher Jessica Simpson pitched the contest's final four and a third inning, striking out four and allowing only an unearned run.

The Mastodons return home to face off against the Leathernecks of Western Illinois University in a key Summit League series with two games on Friday, April 6, and the third and final game of the series on Saturday, April 7.
