Oxford, OH - Behind a school-record toss in the hammer throw, IPFW senior Sara Branam continues to etch her name into the Mastodon record books, as the team out-lasted a nearly four-hour storm delay at the 2011 Miami Invitational.
Branam's toss of 166-feet, 9-inches (50.83 meters) breaks the old school record of 166-6 (50.78 meters), set by Branam, while also giving the senior each of the top 10 longest throws in the event in the history of the IPFW Track and Field program.
Courtney Bowen placed 10th in the discus throw with a toss of 147-0 (44.81 meters), the second longest throw in program history, behind only the 149-9 she tossed a weekend earlier. Like Branam, she now owns each of the top-10 marks in program history in her event.
Felicia Mondry and Sarah Hutchings had the team's highest finishes on the day, placing third and fifth in the 3,000-meter run. The race, which was originally scheduled as a 3,000-meter steeple chase, was switched to a straight track race for safety reasons, as dusk had fallen on the non-lighted track. Mondry took third in the field, hand-timed at 10:15, while Hutchings placed 5th in a time of 10:22.
The same pair also competed in the 1,500-meter run, Hutchings setting a new collegiate personal best with a time of 4:47.05, the 10th fastest time in program history, while Mondry nearly tied her own personal best with a time of 4:48.90, as the duo placed 33rd and 34th, respectively.
Freshman Jasmine Perry sprinted to times of 12.80 in the 100-meter dash, placing 21st with the third best time in program history, and 27.29 in the 200-meter dash, placing 40th overall with the sixth-fastest half-lap in IPFW track and field history.
Throwers Theresa McHugh and Kierstyn Jones nearly bettered their own marks, McHugh with a toss of 96-1 (29.30 meters) in the javelin, placing 13th, and Jones a distance of 35-8 (10.87 meters), placing 28h in the shot put.
In her second such race, freshman Kaylin Taylor sprinted to a time of 1:08.25 in the 400-meter hurdles, racing to the third fastest time in program history.
Jordan Tomecek set a new personal collegiate best in the 5,000-meter run, placing 22nd in a time of 18:42.93, while Rebecca Jacobs took 29th in a time of 19:20.10.
Kayla Boyes also set a new collegiate personal-best in the 800-meter run, finishing 22nd in a time of 2:24.87, while Jessica McNulty (41st/2:36.18) and Nicole Parry (43rd/2:43.52) each set season-bests on the day.
The team returns to the track in a week to compete at the Dave Rankin Invitational, hosted by Purdue University on April 16.
