West Lafayette, IN - The IPFW track and field team continues to set school marks, breaking two more on Saturday, while setting seven separate personal bests at the Dave Rankin Invitational hosted by Purdue University.
The first record on the day came from Theresa McHugh, who demolished the previous school record in the javelin throw. McHugh's best toss of 116-feet, 7-inches (35.53) is nearly five feet further than the previous record of 111-11 (34.12 meters) set by Jessica Miller in 2009.
Courtney Bowen, already the school record holder in the discus, continues to make her school record harder and harder to reach with a toss of 150-11 (46.00 meters), over a foot past the previous record of 149-9 set earlier this season, also at Purdue. Bowen also competed in the javelin throw, tossing the spear 81-3 (24.76).
Sarah Hutchings picked up the team's only first-place finish on the day with a season-best time of 11:05.99 in the steeple chase, with teammate Felicia Mondry finishing third in a time of 11:23.26. The pair then finished 3rd and 7th in the open 5,000-meter run, Mondry leading the duo in a time of 17:47.15, a new personal best, while Hutchings ran to a time of 18:11.98, also a personal best. Jordan Tomecek also finished with an all-time best time in the race, placing 10th by crossing the finish line in 18:30.43, while Kim Matusik (11th/18:32.52) and Rebecca Jacobs (17th/19:30.85) also competed for the 'Dons.
Kaylin Taylor ran in a pair of events, leading the team in the 200-meter dash with a time of 28.05, placing 14th, and taking 19th in the 100-meter dash in a time of 13.46, a new personal-best. Jasmine Perry led IPFW in the 100 with a time of 13.04, placing 16th.
Sara Branam, who set the school record in the hammer throw last weekend, finished with the program's 7th best toss on Saturday with a heave of 158-5 (48.28 meters), placing her 12th. Kierstyn Jones placed 15th in the shot put with a toss of 35-6.50 (10.83 meters).
