Fargo, ND - Four North Dakota State pitchers combined for a six-hit shutout as the Bison avenged Friday's blanking by IPFW with a 5-0 win over the Mastodons at Newman Outdoor Field.

NDSU starter John Straka tossed 6.0 innings, followed by Glenn Parker (1.1 IP), Kyle Kingsley (0.2 IP) and Jason Matilla (1.0 IP). The quartet stymied the 'Dons, who pounded out 12 hits in Friday night's win.

The Bison (18-26, 12-9 SL) were also aided by three IPFW errors, including a pair that figured into the scoring in the 3rd inning.

Before the third, it was NDSU taking a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second on a two-out single down the left field line by second baseman Wes Satzinger.

North Dakota State then got the first two batters on base in the third via IPFW miscues. That brought up third baseman Zack Wentz and Wentz cracked his fifth homer of the season over the left field wall.

Those were the final runs that IPFW starter Lucas Kesterson would yield in the game, but the Mastodons were not able to generate much offense against Bison pitching.

Senior third baseman Will Faulkner went 2-4 in the game, raising his average to .405. Freshman shortstop Kristian Gayday matched Faulkner's 2-4 effort. They were the only two 'Dons with multiple hit games.

Straka earned the win (2-2). He gave up four hits and punched out three.

Kesterson fell to 0-7. Of the five runs he allowed, only three were earned. Kesterson struck out three and walked one in 8.0 innings of work.

IPFW falls to 14-31 and 9-13 in conference play.

The series will conclude on Sunday afternoon with a doubleheader beginning at 2:00 p.m.
