
Seibert Scores a Career-High 21 Points in Loss to Southern Utah

CEDAR CITY, Utah – The IPFW women's basketball team was defeated by Southern Utah on Saturday afternoon by the final score of 80-68. Freshman Haley Seibert led the Mastodons with a 21 point effort against the Thunderbirds.
The second part of the first half was the difference in the game as IPFW now moves to 7-12 overall with a 4-4 mark in conference play. Seibert and Hillary Moore provided the 'Dons with offense early, but IPFW was limited to just two field goals after the 10:55 mark in the first half.
The Thunderbirds took advantage of IPFW shooting just 24 percent in the first half to open up a 33-21 lead at halftime. The Mastodons shot 48 percent in the second half, but they were unable to stage a comeback as each team posted 47 points in the second half.
Amanda Hyde played well in the final twenty minutes of action scoring all 10 of her points in the second half. Stefanie Mauk also dialed in scoring 15 second half points.
Seibert hit back-to-back three point field goals in the first half and then exploded for 14 second half points leading the 'Dons with 21 overall breaking her old career-high scoring mark of 13.
DJ Norman scored a game-high 22 points for the Thunderbirds. Norman picked up her offensive game in the first half as Carli Moreland was forced to sit with two quick fouls. Norman led the way for the Thunderbirds after the first 20 minutes of action with nine points.
Three other players joined Norman with double digit scoring. Kimie Hawkins and Andrea Jones each poured in 10 points while Moreland managed to score 14 despite having four fouls.
Southern Utah outrebounded IPFW 40-25 and they ended the game making more free throws than the Mastodons attempted. The IPFW defense was able to force 20 turnovers, yet they were only able to score 18 points off the miscues.
The Mastodons will look to rebound with another road test, this time at Oral Roberts. IPFW will face the Golden Eagles on Jan. 23 at 8:05 p.m.
