TULSA, Okla. – The Mastodons hit 13 3-point field goals against the Golden Eagles on Monday night at the Mabee Center, but they were unable to earn the road win taking their overall record to 7-13 (4-5 Summit League). The 'Dons lost to Oral Roberts by the final score of 102-62.
The Mastodons didn't hit a two point field goal in the first half. A high-pressure, attacking zone defense limited their chances to attack the rim. The absence of Stephanie Rosado, the teams' leading scorer and rebounder, was also a factor as IPFW struggled to score in the paint. The 'Dons were able to knock down seven shots from behind the arc in the first 20 minutes of action. They ended the game 13-of-36 from distance.
Anne Boese, Erin Murphy, and Stefanie Mauk all reached double figure scoring for IPFW. Boese hit all three of her 3-point field goals in the first half. She hit two free throws and added the team's first two-point field goal of the game ending the night with 13 points. Murphy also knocked down three 3-point field goals, two in the first and one in the second. A pair of free throws took her point total to 11. Mauk found a rhythm in the second half after going scoreless in the first. The sophomore hit two triples on her way to a 10 point night.
Jordan Pyle and Kevi Luper each scored 25 points on Monday night leading Oral Roberts to victory. Pyle added six boards, while Luper jumped in the passing lanes ending the game with eight steals.
Bernadett Balla and Savanna Buck gave Oral Roberts a spark off the bench. Balla went 8-for-8 from the free throw line and filled up the stat sheet with 18 points, nine rebounds, four blocks and four steals. Buck was a perfect 3-for-3 from distance as she finished with 11 points.
Oral Roberts forced 33 turnovers and made the Mastodons pay in transition as they scored 50 points off turnovers. The ORU bench also outscored IPFW 38-8.
The Mastodons will return to the Gates Sports Center this weekend with home contests against South Dakota State and North Dakota State.
