FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The women's basketball team was defeated by South Dakota State by the final score of 77-66. Stephanie Rosado returned to the lineup on Saturday night providing a game-high 21 points for the Mastodons.
IPFW played hard for 40 minutes, but it wasn't enough as South Dakota State improved to 14-7 on the year (9-1 Summit). The Mastodons have now dropped three straight taking their record to 7-14 (4-6 Summit).
Rosado was back in action for the first time since January 9. She went 7-for-15 from the floor and was a perfect 6-for-6 from the free throw line.
Sarah Haluska and Amanda Hyde also played well for IPFW. Haluska hit all four of her field goal attempts while adding on a pair of free throws. She was also tied for the team-high in rebounds with six. Hyde joined Haluska with six boards while pouring in 13 points.
The combination of Jill Young and Jennie Sunnarborg penetrated the IPFW defense as each player ended the night with 15 points and six rebounds. Katie Lingle and Ashley Eide also reached double digit scoring for the Jackrabbits.
The Mastodons trailed 34-30 at the half. The first 20 minutes were extremely close, featuring four ties and six lead changes. The Jackrabbits improved their shooting to 60 percent in the second half to pull away with the win.
Each team shot very well from the charity stripe. IPFW was a perfect 19-for-19 on Saturday night while their opponents knocked down 23 of their 25 chances. IPFW posted the third-best free throw shooting night in Summit League history, and they topped the old school record of 15-for-15 which happened during the 1993 season.
