FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Mastodons dropped to 7-15 overall including a 4-7 mark in the Summit League after falling to North Dakota State on Monday night by the final score of 64-50. Anne Boese scored a game-high 17 points for IPFW.
The first half of play went back and forth with 10 lead changes and one tie. The Bison were able to hit the locker room with a two point edge after a last second jumper by Dani DeGagne put the game at 26-24.
NDSU continued to play at a high level during the second half as they outscored IPFW 38-26. North Dakota State shot 47 percent from the floor in each half extending their lead as IPFW struggled down the stretch shooting just 27 percent in the second half.
Anne Boese scored 17 points off 7-of-16 shooting. She added three rebounds, two assists and two steals against the Bison. Stephanie Rosado nearly recorded a double-double with 11 points and eight rebounds, while fellow senior Sarah Haluska poured in 11 points and four rebounds.
Dani DeGagne filled up the box score on Monday with 16 points, six rebounds, three assists and four steals. Her effort along with Abby Plucker's double-double improved the Bison to 8-15 overall. It was a true team victory for NDSU as seven players tallied at least five points or more.
After getting off to a slow start, IPFW fought back to cut an eight point lead down to one in a two-minute span after a three-point field goal from Boese. The Mastodons kept it close until midway through the second half when back-to-back layups by DeGagne pushed the lead to eight. IPFW couldn't close the gap and were therefore forced to foul which only increased the NDSU lead as they hit 14-of-22 free throws to end the night.
IPFW will look to break their losing streak on the road with a contest against IUPUI on Saturday, Feb. 4. Tip-off at the Jungle is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
