SCOUTING THE LEATHERNECKS
Western Illinois comes into today's Saturday afternoon game with a 5-8 record, and on a two-game win streak with victories over William Woods and IUPUI.
In the team's last game, a 65-60 win at IUPUI, the Leathernecks trailed by 16 points in the second-half, using a 14-2 run to cover most of the deficit, and later a 10-0 run to take a lead late. Michele Salvatori and Valencia Kelly each scored 17 for the Leathernecks, as Salvatori added 11 rebounds for the double-double. Rebecca Henricson dished out five assists in the win.
The Leathernecks put three players into double-figure scoring average, led by last season's Summit League Newcomer of the Year Sadie Webb, who averages 14.2. Kelly averages 11.3 points, while Salvatori averages 11.1.
Salvatori is the team's leading rebounder, pulling down 8.3 rebounds per game, as Webb averages 5.5. As a team, the Leathernecks get out-rebounded by an average of 8.5 rebounds per contest. Kelly has dished out 45 assists for tops on the squad, with Henricson not far behind with 31 helpers.
LAST TIME OUT
The three-time Summit League Tournament Champion South Dakota State Jackrabbits made 11 three-point baskets, and led wire-to-wire on New Year's Eve, topping the IPFW Mastodons 81-58 in the 2011 finale.
Anne Boese scored a team-high 13 points, making 3-of-10 shots from long range. Her three trifectas gives the senior 261 for her career, one behind Brenna Doty (262; 1994-97) of Buffalo for the all-time Summit League record for three-point baskets made in a career.
Stephanie Rosado added 10 points for IPFW, while finishing a rebound shy of a double-double with nine boards. Stefanie Mauk scored nine points, while twin sister Rachel Mauk scored eight for the 'Dons. Sarah Haluksa grabbed three steals, as Rosado had a team-best two blocked shots.
CLIMBING THE CONFERENCE LADDER
IPFW senior Anne Boese is ranked in the career top-10 in two Summit League categories, sitting in second in three-point makes, and fifth in three-point attempts.
QUICK HITTERS
• The 36 points scored by IPFW against Purdue on December 22 are the fewest scored in a game by the 'Dons since the squad was held to 28 at Indiana State on December 28, 2002.
• On Dec. 6 on the road against Valparaiso, senior Anne Boese became the school's career record holder in three-point field goals made, passing former teammate Jordan Zuppe (250). Boese currently stands with 261.
• Boese is two three-point makes from breaking the Summit League career three-point record, currently held by Brenna Doty of Buffalo with 262. Boese is not the only player in the league attempting to break the record, as South Dakota State's Jill Young currently has 257 for her career.
• In other milestone watches, both Stephanie Rosado and Anne Boese have eclipsed the 1,000-point plateau this month. Rosado accomplished the feat against UMKC on December 3, while Boese did it against Valparaiso three days later.
• The Mastodons have made a three-point basket in 388 consecutive games, the fifth longest active streak in the NCAA.
