Men's Golf Stands Third at Cleveland State Invitational

CLEVELAND, Ohio - Behind a second-round 293, tied for the third-lowest round of the tournament, and the IPFW Mastodons sit in third place of 11 teams at the Cleveland State Invitational.
IPFW's two-round 598 sits behind just Oakland (583) and host Cleveland State (590), while the 'Dons are being chased by Youngstown State (602), Detroit (606), Appalachian State (611), Robert Morris (612), Wright State (616), Evansville (620), Loyola (Ill.) (628), and Malone (636).
Sophomores E.J. Tackett and Jacob Groninger each tied for the team lead with identical rounds of 76 and 73, a two-round 149, which ties for the ninth-best two-round score in the field. Drew Imel shot a 76-74, six-over par, tying for 15th in the field.
Senior Bruno Carvalho rounded out the scoring four for IPFW with rounds of 77 and 75, tying for 23rd as Oliver Gibson, in his first event playing for IPFW, shot a first-round 80 before rebounding with a second-round 73, tying for the best score on the team for the round. His 153 places him in a tie for 25th overall.
Freshman Drake Devereux, playing as an individual, carded rounds of 86 and 75 to tie for 56th with an overall score of 161.
The Mastodons return for the third and final round of the 2012 Cleveland State Invitational, an event in which IPFW won a season ago.
