
Men's Golf to Defend Title at Cleveland State

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The IPFW men's golf team will look to defend its 2011 Cleveland State Invitational Crown in Monday and Tuesday at Canterbury Golf Course.

COMPETING TEAMS
The 11-team field will include Cleveland State, Loyola (Ill.), Wright State, Youngstown State, Oakland, Appalachian State, Detroit, Malone, Robert Morris, and Evansville.
THE COURSE
Canterbury Golf Club is nationally recognized as one of the top 100 golf courses in the U.S., and one of the three finest in Ohio. Originally designed by Herbet Strong, the traditional Scottish course was expertly constructed to embrace the area's natural topography resulting in a demanding, but fair, course with a great variation of holes.The course is a Par 71 layout with a total distance of 7,012 yards. IPFW LINEUP
The Mastodons will roll out a new lineup for the tournament, and will include seniors Drew Imel and Bruna Carvalho, sophomores Jake Groninger and E.J. Tackett, and freshman Oliver Gibson. Drake Devereux will be competing as an individual.
LAST TOURNAMENT
Behind a final-round 304, the IPFW Mastodons climbed into 12th place against the strong field of the Wolf Run Invitational.
Drew Imel carded a final-round 74, giving him 226 for the three rounds, placing in a tie for 41st overall in the field of 81. E.J. Tackett, IPFW's low golfer at the last event, was second lowest this weekend, using a 76 to shoot a 233, tying for 59th. Drake Devereux shot a final-round 76, tying for the second lowest on the day, while shooting a three-round 237 for a tie of 64th, the same overall finish as Jacob Groninger, who used a final-round 85 to also shoot a 237. Bruno Carvalho placed 72nd overall, shooting a final-round 78 for a 240.
ABOUT IPFW
IPFW comes into the weekend with its top four players averaging under 79 strokes per round, led by Imel's 73.83 scoring average. Tackett averages 74.83 strokes per round, while Groninger (77.67) and Carvalho (78.67) are both under 79. Freshman Devereux averages 79.33 for the fifth-lowest score for IPFW.
