Women’s Tennis Ends Day One at MSU Invite

EAST LANSING, Mich. – Marcy Huck, Caterina Kiefer and Kristine Lindal all won their opening round matches in singles action at the Michigan State Fall Tennis Invitational. Action will continue tomorrow at 8 a.m.
Marcy Huck had a great first day at the Spartan Invitational by winning her Flight E singles match against Katie Boeckman 6-1, 6-2 while also helping her doubles team advance later in the day. Huck will face Emily Mazzola of Toledo in the second round.
Caterina Kiefer was victorious in her opening round match against Pia Rygh of Toledo 7-5, 6-1. She will be matched up against Erin Gebes of Marquette in round two of Flight B singles. Kristine Lindal was also a day one winner as she knocked off Erin Filbrandt of Dayton 6-4, 6-1 to move on in Flight F singles.
Anita Henestrosa was eliminated from Flight A singles action after back-to-back losses to Ayaka Terashi of Ball State and Nimisha Mohan of Miami (OH). Henestrosa lost 7-6 (3), 6-1 in the opening round and 7-5, 6-1 in the consolation bracket.
Theresa Neumeyr fell to Aina Hernandez of Marquette in Flight C singles 6-3, 6-7, 6-3. She will be matched up against Mackenzie Bowman of Toledo in the consolation bracket. Miloslava Shustova was also downed in Flight D singles by Vanessa Foltinger of Marquette 4-6, 6-1, 6-3. She will match up against Courtney Earnest of Ball State tomorrow.
The team of Anita Henestrosa and Caterina Kiefer fell 9-7 in the first round of Flight A doubles to Marina Bohrer and Catherine Parenteau of Michigan State. Flight B doubles also went against the Mastodons as Theresa Neumeyr and Miloslava Shustova were defeated 8-5 in the opening round by Ali Dawson and Aleeza Kanner of Marquette.
Marcy Huck and Kristine Lindal gave IPFW a victory in Flight C doubles by defeating Jennifer Yen and Christina Brown of Michigan State. The Mastodons will face the winner of Cleveland State and Xavier in the second round tomorrow.
