Women's Tennis Opens Summit Tournament Play with Sweep

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - In the 2015 Summit League Championship opener, the IPFW women's tennis team swept past the Western Illinois Leathernecks by a 4-0 score, advancing to the League semifinals where they will face off against the South Dakota State Jackrabbits in a 2 p.m. start.

The Mastodons gained a definitive advantage in the match with the Leathernecks having just five team members, giving IPFW a walkover win at No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles.

With the advantage of having to win just one doubles match to claim the point, the No. 2 team of Alina Schibol and Sara Sherif made quick work of their Western Illinois opponents, winning 8-1 to secure the IPFW point.

With the lead now standing at 2-0 following the singles walkover at No. 6, Ella Norgren struck first by sweeping her opponent at No. 5 singles 6-0, 6-0. Sherif followed with a 6-1, 6-3 win at No. 3 singles to give the Mastodons the deciding score.

The squad will face off against the Jackrabbits, a team they defeated 5-2 a week earlier in Fort Wayne.
