ELMHURST, Ill. - IPFW sophomore Mayu Sato has earned her fourth Summit League Player of the Week honor this season, sporting an undefeated record in helping IPFW to a second seed in the upcoming Summit League Tournament.
Sato, who is 34-7 on the season, opened the week with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Western Illinois' Courtney Lubbers, before later that afternoon winning 6-2, 6-3 over Iasmin Rosa of South Dakota State in a match that helped clinch the team's second seed for the Summit League Championships. Saturday Sato won 6-1, 6-4 over Valeriia Lavrenchuk of IUPUI, before sweeping Indiana Tech's Raquel Manzoni by 6-2, 6-1 scores.
In doubles she teamed with Ella Norgren to go 3-0, opening with an 8-1 win against Western Illinois. An 8-2 win over IUPUI was followed by an 8-1 win against Indiana Tech to clinch the win.
Sato, the reigning Summit League Player of the Year, and the Mastodons open play at the 2015 Summit League Tournament with a Thursday afternoon battle with the Western Illinois Leathernecks.
