IPFW Caps Season with 4-2 Loss in Tournament Semifinals

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The 2014-15 season came to an end for the women's tennis team, as the squad fell in the Summit League Tournament semifinals by a 4-2 score to the South Dakota State Jackrabbits on Saturday afternoon at Empowered Sport Club.

The loss ends the season for IPFW with a 24-8 overall record.

The Mastodons and Jackrabbits battled for the doubles point, as South Dakota State won 8-5 at No. 1 before IPFW answered back with an 8-4 win from Alina Schibol and Sara Sherif at No. 3 pairs. With all eyes on the No. 2 battle, the match needed a tiebreaker, before the Jackrabbits were able to squeak out an 8-7 (7-5) win, to secure the important doubles point.

SDSU jumped out to a 2-0 lead as singles opened with a Jackrabbit 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 6 singles. Mayu Sato kept her perfect record against Summit League foes with a 6-0, 6-4 win at No. 1 singles, cutting the gap in half at 2-1. The Mastodons fell in three sets at No. 2 singles, before Sherif answered back with a 7-5, 1-6, 7-6 (7-4) victory, once again closing the Mastodons with in one at 3-2.

The Jackrabbits closed the door on the match with a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 3 singles to secure the win.
