
Mastodons to Host Grace at the Memorial Coliseum

FORT WAYNE, Ind. -- The IPFW women's basketball team will host the Grace Lancers this Tuesday, Nov. 13 at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum. The game will be the first part of a scheduled doubleheader as the men's team will face Rochester after the women's contest which begins at 5:30 p.m.
SCOUTING THE LANCERS
Grace is 4-0 early in the 2012-13 season after defeating Holy Cross, Indiana-South Bend, Indiana Southeast and Indiana Tech. The Lancers are an NAIA program that play their home contests on campus at the Orthopedic Capital Center. They have two home wins to go along with two road victories this season.
Grace most recently faced IUPUI in an exhibition contest on Nov. 10. The Jaguars defeated the Lancers by the final score of 107-48. Freshman Gabby Bryant led Grace in scoring with nine points while Allison Kauffman added six points and five rebounds.
The starting lineup for the Lady Lancers has featured Bryant, Kauffman, Jayla Starks, and Emily Bidwell in each contest. Juaneice Jackson has received the starting nod on three occasions and Rianne Aguilar has one start to her credit.
Jackson leads the team in scoring with 17 ppg. She averages 27 minutes per contest and is shooting 46 percent from the floor. Senior Jayla Starks is the floor general for Grace as she leads the team in assists with 15. Starks still looks for her shot as she averages 8.8 points per game while grabbing 7.5 rebounds per contest. Kauffman is another key contributor to the roster as she averages 12.5 points and 8.0 rebounds per game.
LAST TIME OUT
The IPFW women's basketball team was defeated by SIU Edwardsville on Nov. 11 by the final score of 74-67. The Mastodons held a 39-29 lead at the half, but the Cougars came back behind a 23 point, 16 rebound performance from Raven Berry.
Three Mastodons scored in double figures against SIU Edwardsville in the season opener. Haley Seibert led the team with 15 points off five 3-point field goals. Amanda Hyde and Rachel Mauk contributed with 14 and 12 points respectively. Hyde shot 7-for-16 from the field while adding five rebounds and a team-high six assists. R. Mauk hit three 3-point field goals to help her reach 12 points.
Points in the paint ended up being a key factor in Sunday afternoon's game as the Cougars outscored IPFW 42-14 in that category. SIU Edwardsville also scored 19 points off IPFW turnovers which helped them erase their first half deficit.
Foul trouble also hurt IPFW in the second half as Amanda Hyde picked up her third foul of the game near the 13 minute mark and a critical fourth foul was whistled against Hyde with 11:26 to play. The 'Dons led 50-48 when Hyde committed her fourth foul, but the momentum shifted after that point as the Cougars pushed their lead to nine with Hyde on the sideline.
Rebecca Bruner and Stefanie Mauk each played well in a losing effort as Bruner ended the day with eight points, two rebounds, and an assist in 22 minutes of play. S. Mauk hit two 3-point field goals ending the game with six points and a team-high nine rebounds. Erin Murphy also provided IPFW with a spark off the bench by scoring nine points.
3-POINT STREAK
The IPFW Mastodons have made a 3-point field goal in 406 straight contests, a stretch that ranks as the fourth longest active streak in NCAA Division I. Iowa State's streak is at the top of the list by making a 3-point field goal in 549 consecutive games. Sam Houston State and Connecticut rank ahead of IPFW with 500 and 474 respectively.
CRASH THE BOARDS
Junior Stephanie Mauk grabbed a career-high nine rebounds against SIU Edwardsville in the season opener. The 5-10 guard pulled down seven defensive boards to go along with two on the offensive end. She finished the game with six points, one assist and one steal.
BALL MOVEMENT
The Mastodons recorded 19 assists against SIU Edwardsville as junior Amanda Hyde ended the day with a career-high six against the Cougars. Mur Hagerman, Rachel Mauk, and Erin Murphy also got involved ending the game with three each.
3-POINT LAND
IPFW took 30 3-point field goal attempts in the first game of the season. Haley Seibert was 5-of-6 from distance and Rachel Mauk knocked down three of her six attempts. Additional Mastodons to hit a 3-point field goal against the Cougars included Stefanie Mauk (2-for-7) and Erin Murphy (1-for-5).
