Mastodons Grab First Win of the Season

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The IPFW women's basketball team recorded their first win of the season by defeating Grace on Tuesday afternoon by the final score of 68-52. Every player on the roster got into the action against the Lancers as the Mastodons even their regular season record at 1-1.
The Mastodons were led by point guard Haley Seibert who scored a game-high 18 points to go with a career-high seven assists. Seibert didn't commit a single turnover and added three rebounds and a steal.
Amanda Hyde, Erin Murphy, and Rachel Mauk provided a supporting cast for IPFW with their impact scoring. Hyde shot 6-of-12 from the floor, ending the game with 12 points and four rebounds. Both Murphy and R. Mauk ended the game with eight points and three rebounds.
Grace had three student-athletes in double figure scoring as Allison Kauffman, Juaneice Jackson, and Gabby Bryant all found an offensive rhythm at the Memorial Coliseum. Kauffman led the way with 17 points and five boards while Jackson and Bryant chipped in with 11 and 10 points respectively.
IPFW enjoyed a 36-20 lead at halftime and they were able to hold onto that margin for the remainder of the contest. All five freshmen saw the court against Grace and three of the five were able to score at least one field goal. Arriel Anderson and Hannah Lee were each 1-for-1 from the floor and guard Courtney Ogle added three points and four rebounds in seven minutes of action.
The Mastodons shot 47 percent from the field on 27-of-57 shooting while holding their opponents to just 37 percent for the game. IPFW was able to push the ball up the floor as they outscored Grace 10-2 in fast break points.
The women's basketball team will return to action on Monday, Nov. 19 with their first road game of the season. The 'Dons will travel to Muncie, Ind. to face the Ball State Cardinals at Worthen Arena. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
