Men's Golf Closes Fall Season in North Carolina

CASHIERS, N.C. - Billy King and the IPFW men's golf team close out the 2012 fall season at the 2012 Hummingbird Intercollegiate hosted by Western Carolina University.

COMPETING TEAMS
There are 13 teams in the field, representing six states for a total of 79 golfers and 14 individuals. Appalachian State, Army, Belmont, Colgate, Elon, Francis Marion, Gardner-Webb, Guilford, High Point, Samford, and Wofford join IPFW and Western Carolina in the field.
THE COURSE
Founded in 1956, CCSV is recognized as one of North Carolina's premier private clubs. The club is a seasonal and member-owned Club located in the heart of Sapphire Valley in Western North Carolina. Some of the members have made these mountains their permanent home while others retreat there for their "mountain getaway". The course website is HERE.
IPFW LINEUP
IPFW's lineup will consist of freshman Oliver Gibson, sophomore E.J. Tackett, juniors Patrick Kundenreich and Jacob Groninger, along with senior Drew Imel. Those five will compete in a threesome with golfers from Samford and Guilford.
Freshman Drake Devereux coll compete as an individual, golfing with individuals from Western Carolina and Samford.
LAST TOURNAMENT
Behind a final-round 293, the IPFW Mastodons carded a 36-hole score of 588, good for second in a strong and deep field at the 2012 Dayton Flyer Invitational.
The IPFW 36-hole score is the third-lowest tournament in program history, trailing only a pair of two-round tournaments from the 2009 season (a 581 and 582).
Imel shot an even-par 71 in the final round, while Tacktt carded a 73, as the pair ended up tied with 36-hole scores of 145, tying for seventh place in the 100-player field. The pair tied for the eighth-lowest 36-hole tournament score in program history, as Nathan Hoff has the school record of a 139, set at the 2006 IPFW Fall Classic.
Groninger shot a 73, as Bruno Carvalho carded a 76, as the pair of players also ended tied with a 149, tying for 19th overall.
Kundenreich rounded out the golfers on the official IPFW team with his second straight 77, giving him a 154, tying for 47th, as Gibson, playing as an individual, shot a final-round 85, giving him a 164 for the 36 holes, placing 90th.
ABOUT IPFW
The Mastodons are coming off of their best finish of the season at the Dayton Flyer Invitational, where the squad was the runner-up.
Leading the way this season for IPFW is Imel, who is averaging 74.0 strokes per round, an average of two strokes over par and has three sub-par rounds, while Tackett averages just over half a stroke more, at 74.55 strokes per round, with two sub-par rounds this season.
Groninger shoots an average of 76.18, with Kundenreich carding an average of 77.0.
