Mastodons Tied for 10th at Fall Finale

SAPPHIRE, N.C. - The IPFW men's golf team carded a first-round 307 to sit in a two-way tie for 10th place in the field of 13 at the 2012 Hummingbird Intercollegiate held at the Country Club of Sapphire Valley.
Samford leads the field with a two-under 282 on the first day, while Belmont (286), Wofford (292), Francis Marion (295), Gardner-Webb (295), Western Carolina (298), Elon (298), Appalachian State (300), and Army (302) are all sitting ahead of IPFW's total of 307. High Point is knotted up with the Mastodons, while Guilford (309), and Colgate (311) round out the 13 teams in the field.
Leading the way for the Mastodons was senior Drew Imel who carded a three-over 74, tying for 23rd in the field. E.J. Tackett shot a 76, five-over par to tie for 33rd, as Patrick Kundenreich, in his second event of the fall season, shot a six-over 77 for a tie of 37th.
Jacob Groninger rounded out the scoring four for IPFW with a nine-over par 80, tying for 65th, with Oliver Gibson shooting an 81, 10 over par, tying for 71st.
Playing as an individual, Drake Devereux shot a six-over 77 to tie for 37th in the field.
The Mastodons return to action on Sunday for the second of two days at the Country Club of Sapphire Valley.
