BROOKINGS, S.D. - A pair of Rachel Good goals, the last of which came in overtime, helped propel IPFW to a 2-1 overtime victory over the North Dakota State Bison in the semifinals of the 2012 Summit League Championships.
With the win, the Mastodons face off on Sunday, November 4 in a 1 p.m. kickoff against the Oakland Grizzlies for the right at the league's NCAA Tournament berth.
The Mastodons peppered the North Dakota State goal to the tune of 36 shots, and took a school-record 12 corner kicks, as IPFW improved to 10-7-1, a new school record for wins in a season. The win also improves IPFW to 10-0-1 in matches in which they score a goal this season.
Despite the high shot count in the first half - IPFW led in the category 12-2 in the first 45 minutes - neither team could find the back of the net, as the squads went into the break tied 0-0 on the scoreboard.
IPFW wasted little time in the second half in finding the back of the net, as Good took the ball and dribbled up the left side, sneaking the ball into the goal from 25 yards out to give IPFW, the home team on the scoreboard, a 1-0 advantage.
The Bison quickly followed with a goal of their own less than three minutes later when Anisha Kinnarath shot the ball from 25 yards out to the opposite upper-90, knotting the score at 1-1.
The Mastodons kept shooting at goal, and out-shot the Bison 21-8 in the second half, not none of the remaining shot attempts could find their final target, sending the game into extra time.
In the first extra 10-minute period, Good struck with 40 seconds remaining when she broke free from the right side, knocking the ball in from 20 yards out and sending the Mastodons to the Championship game.
Good attempted 10 shots in the game, a new Summit League Tournament individual record, while Arianne Mason had five, while Erin Gill and Danielle Bishop each had four. IPFW goalkeeper Sam Pavlika had six saves in the win, while her counterpart, Sierra Bonham had five stops in the game.
