AUBURN, Ala. - The IPFW Mastodons kick off their 2012-13 season on the road against SEC foe Auburn University in an 8 p.m. tip-off on Friday evening.

SCOUTING THE TIGERS
Auburn comes into the season opener returning one double-digit scorer from last season - Frankie Sullivan who averaged 12.6 points per game. Returning for the Tigers is also Rob Chubb who averaged 8.1 points and 5.1 rebounds per game. Sullivan's 2.3 assists per game are also best ont he squad coming into the year.
Auburn is 73-33 in season openers all-time for a 68.7 winning percentage, including 52-10 in their openers at home. The Tigers have faced just one current member of the Summit League, a Nov. 2009 win over IUPUI.
HIGH SCORER
According to the final NCAA Statistical rankings from the 2011-12 season, now-IPFW senior Frank Gaines ended the year ranked ninth in the country in points per game, averaging 21.2 per contest. He had reached the 20-point plateau in 19 of the team's 30 games during the season, including scoring a career-high 30 points against Western Illinois on January 7, at Oakland on February 11, at Eastern Kentucky on February 18, and at South Dakota on February 23. In all, the Summit League had five scorers inside of the top-19 overall, with Oakland's Reggie Hamilton leading the nation. At the end of the year, there were 15 players averaging over 20 points per game, over one quarter of those coming from the Summit League. The Friday night season-opener will be IPFW's first game against a team from the SEC Conference. IPFW is still looking for its first win over a team from a “Big Six” conference (ACC, Big East, SEC, Big 10, Big 12, Pac-12), and is 0-36 all-time against schools currently in those leagues.
