FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The IPFW women's basketball team defeated Rochester College on Saturday afternoon by the final score of 71-59. Stefanie Mauk put together a stellar performance by setting new career-highs with 20 points and 15 rebounds.
Mauk hit five 3-point field goals against the Warriors and ended the game 7-of-13 from the floor to net her team-high 20 points. Her defensive effort was equally as good as Mauk grabbed 12 defensive rebounds while also leading the team in blocked shots with two.
Amanda Hyde and Erin Murphy also impacted the game by reaching a double figure scoring totals. Hyde hit all nine of her free throw attempts as she ended the day with 15 points, five rebounds, and three steals. Murphy once again provided the 'Dons with a spark off the bench scoring 11 points on 4-of-11 shooting.
Head Coach Chris Paul used the entire roster against Rochester as nine players recorded over 10 minutes of playing time. The team responded by outscoring Rochester in bench points and fast break points.
Sam Tomaschko and Jazzmone Russell kept Rochester in the game as each player scored in double figures. Tomaschko recorded a double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds and Russell used five 3-point field goals to net her 17 points.
3-point shooting was a major factor in the opening half as each team hit 50 percent of their shots from distance. Haley Seibert drilled a 3-point field goal to give IPFW a one point advantage and then freshman Courtney Ogle got involved with a 3 moments later that pushed the lead to 19-10. The end of the half was a two person shootout as Mauk and Russell went head-to-head in the scoring column. Mauk hit three 3-point field goals in the final three minutes of the half and Russell kept her team alive with eight points which made the score 38-28 at the half.
The second half got very interesting as Rochester came back to tie the game at 54-54 after a three-point play from Tomaschko. Mur Hagerman jump started the IPFW offense after the tie by scoring four-straight points. Hyde would also help cushion the lead with a jumper mixed in with a pair of free throws. The duo of Hagerman and Hyde helped IPFW hold onto a lead as the Mastodons earned their first win in the month of December with a 71-59 victory.
